I've given up and ordered the Novoflex R to M adapter which will be here next week as opposed to the Leica R to M adapter which is unlikely to be here this year.

It is totally unacceptable that Leica are unable to supply basic accessories such as the R to M adapter. Come to think of it, it is unacceptable that they are still struggling to establish an acceptable supply of M240s a year after announcing the camera.

By the time the R to M adapter is available no-one will be buying it as they will all have bought third party adapters at a fraction of the price.

I've just received my Novoflex LEM/LER which is coded as per thighslapper's #13. It works perfectly with my R lenses. What is also interesting is that I also received the LEM/CONT which is for Contax/Yashica mounts. This just has a white strip so I have coded it to bring up the R menu (Zeiss Contax Vario-Sonnar 28-85 etc.) and this works perfectly as well.

Oh why oh why have not Leica been able to bring out their R-M adapter .....

reassuring that someone else has got an LEM/LER that works ok .... I was beginning to think mine was a one-off.....

I just received a copy of the new coded version of the Novoflex LEM-LER adapter. It was NOT recognized by the camera when it was first mounted. I reset the camera to the factory presets. The camera recognized the adapter, setting lens detection to manual and allowing me to select the 70-180 R/2.8. I then mounted a coded M lens, and went back to the adapter with the mounted zoom. Again it was not recognized and has not been ever since the first time it appeared to work. I suspect that the adapter is defective. Any thoughts?

misalignment of the white bit or reflectivity of the anodised black bits.

only 2 possible causes.

from self coding experience on the M9, both are finicky .... and appear more so on the M with the sensor re-design....

I idn't even bother fiddling with it; I just sent it out for proper cding.

The delay in providing the "official" adapter is beginning to annoy me more than just a little. I've spent more than £10000 on R lenses to extend my M capabilities (zoom, telephoto, macro) and so far they are just paperweights. Time for an email to Stefan Daniel, me thinks.

Edit: Done, he's away until 24/09, I've forwarded to the person mentioned in his out of office reply. We'll see.

If you spent so much, buying a Novoflex in the meantime should not be a problem. This way, your lenses would be promoted from paperweight to "usable" once you get used to the blackout after each picture.

end of june, they said end of July.

I missed the product for my US trip, wanted to shoot with

PC-Super-Angulon 28mm.

Finally they now leave delivery completely open.

An indicator for technical problems?

But frankly, why bother with Leica, just get the Novoflex adapter and be done with it. I could not be happier with it.

Yes, they are training the newest young recruit to use a lathe. Strange, but some guy on gerDPI mentioned it is coming next week. More broken promises? Source of information?

I do not understand this waiting problem. As I said in another thread the older R to M adapter number 22228/500934 with Leitz Wetzler Germany and a red L.C. on the collar was probably made by Novoflex. I send the above adapter to Solms to have the six bit code put on the adapter and they replied that they could not code the adapter as it was not made by them. I was shocked until I realized that it must have been out sourced by Leica to Novoflex to make this model of the L to M adapter. It is very well built and with a correct code put on with a magic marker it brings up the R menu. So don't wait as when you receive the R to M adapter it will have probably been made by Novoflex!!

So in the week I have been away playing with old cars, no R to M adapter, no firmware update, no MF grip. Plus ça change plus c'est la même chose. :(

The upside is that I have delighted with the performance and handling of my "new to me" 40mm Summicron C on the M240 over the week.

I have a cheapo R to M adapter that will not code, as it does not have a framelines tab and the vertical alignment is off but I want to wait for the Leica R to M because of the tripod support. I think I am correct that the Novoflex does not have a tripod support.

For my Hartblei Super Rotator 80mm lens, there is not enough room to fit a third party support and, as you are pulling the quite stiff tilt and shift controls around, I am uncomfortable about the strains it puts on the camera mount.

Correct the Novoflex has no tripod mount. Just in case I tried the STA-1 on it and that will not work as it hits the lens release tab and if used securely would push the tab inwards allowing release of a lens. Obviously, no good.

Someone mentioned here that they use a Novoflex tripod clamp. I will look for that post.

As regards to the cheap adapters, I just received one from JP finance, can't recall the name properly. However, even though the coding looks good, all the flanges are just too sharp for me to want to use and perhaps chance ruin my camera mounting plate. So I will not use it. When I run my fingers over this adapters flanges and then over the Novoflex flanges there are "noticeable" differences in the quality. You get what you pay for.

I got the Novoflex coded one as I will be switching R lenses and thought I would just leave the Novoflex on a smallish R lens (like 21-35, 80 or 28-90) when compared to the larger zooms which have built in tripod mounts anyway. The Leica adapter would mostly come in handy for the 80-200 (75-210 too) which I find does not take the STA-1 unless you do minor red dot surgery which I am not inclined to want to do. Since my 100/2.8 and 180/2.8 seem to take the STA-1 very well they are covered with that setup.
