jaapv Posted December 22, 2013 Share #341 Posted December 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Weird - once again the banks haven't got their act together. Over here all webshops have the iDeal system, which means they will have a button on your website which will get you directly into the wire transfer system of your bank to let you make the payment from your bankaccount
Advertisement Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Hi jaapv, Take a look here waiting for the R to M adapter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Meadowspos Posted December 22, 2013 Share #342 Posted December 22, 2013 If this is what Leica Mayfair wrote in an email... We can take payment remotely and post it to you. There would be a £5 but we can only accept remote payment via BACS transfer. When the item arrives we can send you our bank account details and deliver it once the payment clears. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is a measure we are currently undertaking to ensure the protection of your payment. we can add inability to write plain English to their list of failings. The first sentence suggests exactly the opposite to what is being discussed here and what's the reference to £5 about? I have no idea. The nightmare for me is that this string of Leica-owned shops proliferate to the extent that independent Leica dealers are put at a disadvantage to force them out of business leaving me no option but to deal with Bruton Place. Thanks for your reply - the e-mail quoted above was written to me by Leica Mayfair in November 2013 and £235 will be the final price charged to me if the adapter ever arrives. As far as I can tell at the moment the list price of the adapter is £230. The £5 I have taken to be the price of the packing and postage once the item is available. Hope this clarifies the price make up. Dave
jcraf Posted December 22, 2013 Share #343 Posted December 22, 2013 The nightmare for me is that this string of Leica-owned shops proliferate to the extent that independent Leica dealers are put at a disadvantage to force them out of business leaving me no option but to deal with Bruton Place. That would be a great shame. Let's hope it never happens. When I bought my MM (not from Mayfair) the price was a couple of hundred under the RRP. There was a 'desire to undercut Mayfair', who sell at RRP. So while independents can afford to do this, we should be fine!
jcraf Posted December 24, 2013 Share #344 Posted December 24, 2013 John, Thanks for that advice. Maybe I will wait for the Leica one after all. I will just check with my actuary how long my life expectancy is. Wilson Now I have had time to play with the M fitted with the coded Novoflex LEMLER, plus 80mmm Summilux R and EVF, although the camera does pick up the adapter and allow me to select the lens in the R menu, it does not want to give me the focus aid and associated focus peaking in the auto mode. In other words it in auto focus aid mode, it won't switch to a magnified view when I turn the focusing ring of the lens. Works fine using the focus button manually. Additionally, I noticed that when new the milled black pits were a little shiny and remained so even when I put some black Sharpie on them. I have now carefully put some matt black enamel in the black pits and some matt white enamel in the single white one. The camera now seems to pick up the adapter more reliably. Did make me snigger though. Hunched over an expensive little piece of metal adapter to use on a £5000 camera, so I can use a £1500 R lens, and I'm reduced to hunting the house on Christmas Eve for a fine model brush and my humbrol enamel paints. Took me back to Airfix days........
wlaidlaw Posted December 24, 2013 Share #345 Posted December 24, 2013 John, Auto zoom/focus only works on rangefinder lenses, as it is activated by movement of the RF roller in the body. Wilson
jcraf Posted December 24, 2013 Share #346 Posted December 24, 2013 Thanks Wilson I hadn't picked that up from reading the manual, which I think is a little misleading. At p177 of the English section it states: "Note: The following 2 functions are also available with Leica R lenses i.e. not only with Leica M lenses with 6-bit coding and Leica M lenses selected using the menu" It then goes on to describe the magnification function for 'occasional' and 'continuous' use. With the latter (continuous use) it says : "As soon as you turn the focusing ring on the lens, the enlarged detail described above appears" Having mentioned R lenses at the top of the section, nowhere does it say the continuous setting does not work with the focusing of R lenses. Of course, if I'd applied my brain I'd have realised that it must be mechanically-triggered and could only work via the RF roller and M lens cam, but the manual does not help. So, anyway, thankfully the LEMLER is working OK now. Have a great Christmas. Regards

Thanks Wilson Cannot remember the exact date - but mid May 2013 I think, because that was when I got my M [from another dealer not Mayfair]. Hope that this helps. Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted January 6, 2014 Share #351 Posted January 6, 2014 Yes, the adapter itself just says "Leica R-Adapter M" but the foot hedges its bets by saying "Leica Camera Germany" and "Made in Portugal". There's no denying the quality of the finish which makes the Novoflex adapters I have (Nikon to M, M42 to M) look rather utilitarian by comparison but they are rather less expensive. I agree with this assessment as well as Mark's later posts on this subject. I have now tested the Leica R/M adapter for a week with various R lenses and can say that the build quality is superior to the Novoflex adapters I have (Nikon to Leica M, Visoflex Lens adapter to Leica M) which is to be expected considering the price difference. I am glad that I used my ancient 22228 adapters (I have 2 and strangely, one works with the R lenses including the ROM types and one does not, as there is a physical block). The R-lenses could not be set in the menu (no coding) but the results were acceptable when using the coding of what I thought would be approximate M-lenses. The very solid tripod attachment is essential for copying work and I am glad that I waited for the Leica RM adapter in spite of the ridiculous delay in deliveries which remains inexplicable. I am particularly pleased that I can use my R lenses (21-35 zoom, 35-70 asph, 100 Macro asph and 180 Canadian 3.4) The Nikon 58mm 1.2 yields pleasing results with the Novoflex adapter and I am now going to experiment with the 2 Nikon PC lenses I have ( 35 and 28 mm) as well as an Olympus 24mm PC. All in all the various adapters and some old optics have materially widened my options with the M 240. I hope that Leica appreciates the sales potential of adapters - they used to be the quintessential adapter makers for their screw and later M cameras covering all sorts of applications. The M 240 is - of course - not a real SLR but being able to carry one camera and use some of the old lenses for specific purposes is a real boon for me. wlaidlaw Posted January 8, 2014 Share #352 Posted January 8, 2014 My R to M adapter is finally on its way after some sterling lobbying work by Steve at Ffordes and a little bit of string pulling by me. At least it means I can go off to India with the 80-200 on a non-wobbly adapter, where the top of the lens is at 12 o’clock. Well that is assuming my M240 comes back from its latest trip to Solms in time. Wilson
AlanJW Posted January 8, 2014 Share #353 Posted January 8, 2014 Dave, Do you mind saying for how long you have had this on order for from Leica Mayfair? Thanks Wilson I have had mine on order from my dealer in the US since the Fall of 2012, when my M was ordered. My M was delivered at the end of May. I still don't have the adapter and the last word on availability was last August, which is absurdly wrong. I continue to be very disappointed, frustrated and annoyed that Leica could not get this product out in general circulation more than a year after it was officially announced, with some fanfare, as the "R" solution people had been clamoring for. It may be well made and precisely machined, but it isn't like Leica needed some rare earth glass or some electronic component that was outsourced. It is two lens mounts, a female and a male, both well known in their specifications, connected by a tube and some dots added on one end.
wlaidlaw Posted January 8, 2014 Share #354 Posted January 8, 2014 Alan, Like you I had had mine on order since September 2012. I think if I had not stamped my feet and thrown the toys out of the pram, I would still be waiting. There seems to be a tendency for most of the few available adapters to be allocated to Leica Boutiques and only a minuscule trickle reaches the dealers. I can tell you that the dealers are far from happy about this and are making their feelings very clear to Leica. Wilson

k-hawinkler Posted January 8, 2014 Share #356 Posted January 8, 2014 I just pre-ordered a few minutes ago the Leica R to M adapter to use with my Novoflex M to E adapter on my Sony A7R. I won't be holding my breath as I already have several R to E adapters. Anybody try to guesstimate how long it will take before the Leica adapter will show up? masjah Posted January 8, 2014 Share #357 Posted January 8, 2014 I have heard it said that the people at Solms do look at this Forum from time to time. I wonder just how much they care about the annoyance caused by all this to their loyal customer base, especially if it is indeed the case that their posh boutiques are getting the things, whereas their dealers (you know, the ones who actually know something about Leica gear) are also getting increasingly frustrated. You are so late to the party, I do believe the M280 will be announced before you see one and that is assuming the next M is called the M260, i.e., 20 more than the current model. Wilson Glad you finally got yours. I had to become a pest with my dealer after I heard they were delivering in the UK.
ModernMan Posted January 8, 2014 Share #359 Posted January 8, 2014 FYI all, the MF Handgrip is presently in stock for immediate shipment at B&H. Just got an e-mail notice, and confirmed on their website.
k-hawinkler Posted January 8, 2014 Share #360 Posted January 8, 2014 Lou, I had pre-ordered one in September 2012, one day after the announcement. But I canceled that order too when I declined accepting a silver M240 after waiting for a year. Hopefully the M360 will be up to snuff and I already should have the adapter when that camera is actually available. BTW, there were a few silver M in stock at Dale this morning. Handgrips as well.
