I have had mine on order from my dealer in the US since the Fall of 2012, when my M was ordered. My M was delivered at the end of May. ...

Same here, I placed my order for the M when it was announced and placed my order for the adaptor at the same time. I am fortunate to have my M but still no adaptor.

Pete.

Little nugget of information for anyone using an SLR to M Novoflex adapter (LEM/LER, LEM/CONT, LEM/NIK, etc), Martin Grahl of Novoflex advised me today that they are expecting to release a tripod support ring to go on these adapters within a couple of months or so. This is good news for me, as I would like at some point to buy one of the superb Contax 100-300 Vario Sonnars, which due to the trombone focus/zoom, has no built in tripod support, unlike my 300 Tele Tessar.

Thanks Wilson. That would be cool. This has been missing.

I assume that support ring will be similar to the ASTAT-NEX and ASTAT-MFT.

I hope they put the tightening screw in the best place and not as on the two mentioned ASTATs.

But the problem was easy to fix by taking the thing apart and putting it back together the other possible way.

That moved the tightening screw to the other side so that it can't interfere with your fingers on the grip.

IMHO the best place would be now to let the tightening screw stick upwards instead of downwards.

mmmm..... I ordered mine in April and got it mid December....... (plus the grip) .... and an M in the first March 2013 delivery......

the common thread with this and camera/other accessory orders is that although the main dealers may get more stock, their waiting lists are proportionately much larger so you end up waiting longer ......

....... a good relationship with a smaller dealer outside the main cities seems to be a far better bet .....

Generally good advice but in this case it has not helped me. My dealer is relatively small in a suburb of NYC. I don't know how Leica or Leica US allocates, but my dealer is as frustrated as I am. There have been shortages before on other brands too, but never on a relatively simple accessory for 15 months. Btw, I have an apo Summicron on order too and no word on when that might show up either. But delays on a lens of that nature are more understandable than on a R to M adapter.

Same here. Small dealer. Sometime they come through (got the M240 first of March) and sometime they don't don't get stuff. Been waiting for the Adaptor as well. I did get the 50 APO in the summer, but it was crap and I returned it. They haven't heard anything yet about availability of the 50 APO.

Alan - I like your new avatar... you're looking good.:D

Alan,

Not sure about the new avatar. I think you could do with a shave :D

I suspect that in the end you will be glad you did not get one of the early APO 50’s. It comes down to the same thing yet again. Why is it always customers who detect these problems and not Leica themselves? Either the testers are totally incompetent or else afraid to tell the management “this product stinks and needs to go back to the drawing board”.

Just a few things that spring to mind:

1) M8 and IR over-sensitivity

2) Summicron 28 front elements coming loose

3) M9 and cracking sensor cover glasses and sensor failures

4) 35 FLE purple fringing

5) M240 Lugs and over heating

6) M240 - SF58 not communicating

7) APO 50 Flare

8) Noctilux poor build consistency

I know people say: ”They are a small company and will inevitably make mistakes” but this is too many.

To those who have commented on my new avatar, it is my late and dearly beloved Oliver, an Airedale Terrier who departed this world at 13 just before Thanksgiving. He was smart, kind, a bit mischievous, independent and gentle with children. A dog with better qualities than many people. He will be my avatar for the time being as a reminder of what a good dog he was.

Alan, sorry about Oliver. Tougher to lose such a pet than many think.

Heard yesterday my adapter may be here tomorrow. Very excited.

Despite some challenges delighted with my M and the prospect of using R lenses when occasion arises.

Now I have received mine this morning, the one thing you can’t do is argue with the quality of the adapter. It is a beautifully made and finished item. It makes the Novoflex adapters look a little crude.

In 20 years or so, I can see the rubber bungs that cover the connection port for the tripod support foot, becoming a collector’s item. :)

Glad you got it, but now no M? That you need along with your 0.95.

Lou,

I am gritting my teeth and pretending to be patient. If I have heard nothing from them by say Wednesday of next week I will phone to say forget the repair, just send me a replacement, as I am entitled to under EU law on Goods and Warranties. I have made crystal clear to Leica Service, that by returning the lens to them along with my M I was not tacitly agreeing to a repair and reserved my right to claim a replacement.

According to the major Leica dealer I ordered my adapter from they have not received a single Leica R to M adapter yet.

Frankly, that boggles the mind!

Ah ...... but you are the other side of the pond .......

there are over 1500 Leica dealers in Europe and 174 in the US......

..... we have wartime rationing and convoys in reverse .....;)

My dealer called today to tell me my adapter had arrived. I'll get it tomorrow or Monday. About 15 months from order to delivery. I guess I can't complain anymore.

... I could and as such I ordered a slot coded one (use like Leica would do) from China for $50 and it works. Mounting this adapter is very tight, much tighter than the Novoflex to mount, but works as it should.

...

HI

If you dont mind me asking - which adaptor did you buy from China? As there are so many, it is always a risk that you end up with one poorly machined from aluminium, so I would appreciate directions to a good one.

Many thanks

I walked into my camera shop, and they just received one, I got it and an old Leica TS 35mm f4 R lens.

Pretty Cool

They also had the coded Novoflex, which did not work. Luckily the Novofex rep was there and it was sent back.
