My understanding from Leica Australia, as of yesterday, is that Leica Germany is about to receive supply of R to M adapters which should then be shipped out fairly promptly.

Hopefully the wait is almost over.

Who cares now that the Novoflex is coded.

Actually I do, because I intend to use the associated tripod mount fairly consistently for my type of photography!

Thanks, I was just coming back to add this.

As delivery of the Leica adapter is imminent (:):) I've cancelled my order for the Novoflex adapter. Furthermore, the cost of the Novoflex and ring collar for tripod mounting is not that different to the Leica adapter.

What lens or lenses will you use the adapter with on your M?

Beyond the usual range of M lenses (21 Summicron to 135mm Apo-Telyt), at the moment I have a 28PC and 28-90 Vario-Elmarit.

I guess you're going to say that I wouldn't need an adapter ring mount for tripod with these lenses??

The 28PC IMHO really benefits from being used with a tripod. One of the main applications of this lens is of course to preserve accurate verticals in images of tall buildings, and it helps tremendously if one starts off with a level platform, quite apart from the manageability of focussing, then shifting, then stopping down. Agreed, one could always use the original camera tripod bush, but the larger R lenses are heavy, and I know which I would prefer!

I have used the 28-90 extensively on my M and find that it is not too large to be able to mount on a tripod with the RRS QR base plate which I attach directly to the M. The 28 PC to me always requires a tripod and it can easily mount the same way as the 28-90 since it weighs less and does not extend out like the 28-90 can do at times.

The RRS base plate, MPR-113, sells for around $65 (if I recall correctly) and works just fine. I have a Leica adapter on order and when it comes in I will take it. On my longer R lenses which have their own tripod socket (I also put short QR plates on these lenses for ease of use), the plan is to use the Novoflex since the Leica will be better suited to those R lenses without built in tripod sockets, such as the ones you own.

Whenever the MF grip or any Leica M grip is released, RRS QR plates for the base of these will be a nice addition since once screwed into the grip one can then just use the thumb wheel to detach grip from camera for SD card and battery changes. Nice new feature for us.

For changing to portrait from landscape (or visa versa) the plan will be to use the very nice RRS L bracket, MC-L, which has 4 adjustment sliders for attaching to the M. One plus is that it is hoped one will be able to use this L bracket at the right side/end of the M so that the RF viewfinder is up at the top thereby making the entire exercise much more user friendly than in the past where RRS handgrip/L brackets used on older model Leica M's always seemed to get in the way of ease of focusing when in the portrait position.

I am very chary about using my Super Rotator 80mm Tilt Shift lens on my current R to M adapter without tripod foot. Heaving the quite stiff control levers around, I think puts a lot of strain on the adapter and mount on the body. Also although I have a support ring on my Vario Elmar 80-200, it would be much neater without and make altering the aperture a lot easier.

Any news about MF grip? I really want this for my trip to India next February, as the GPS location will be a good feature and with my rubbish hands, a grip really helps with the Zeiss Vario Sonnar 28-85 and other big lenses

If you leave for India without that grip, it would be the biggest surprise for many of us here. An 18 month delay in today's digital world is like an eternity.

Lou,

It would almost be a surprise if I had the grip :(

Wilson,

If all else fails and you do not require the Multifunction part of the Multifunctional grip, then consider this from Really Right Stuff:

BM240 Set: Includes Base+L-Plate+Grip - BM240-Set - Kit Configuration Page

RRS Grips and L bracket work very well and allow the camera to be loaded quickly, surely and easily into an Arca Swiss type QR clamp.

Rich,

It is really the GPS bit I want. I have seen the RRS grip but I am very committed to the Manfrotto PL12 QR plate system, with 4 tripods, 6 heads, various arms, 2 monopods (heavy duty and carbon). I don't therefore really want to buy any product that uses an other and incompatible plate system.

Wilson,

OK, understood regarding the GPS. I had forgotten that you were in the Manfrotto PL 12 QR plate system.

I sure hope that "good authority" has better information than the multitude of Leica stores that keep feeding us mushrooms sxxt and keep us in the dark which I presume Leica has also been doing to even their most treasured stores.

And then you read this.

A key decision criterion of the jury was the willingness to invest and the ability of the company , with innovative products and services to respond quickly to changing market conditions.

The jury of this contest must know things that are hidden for every body out of Leica.

It took Leica 10 months to make a half case available for the M240. Luigi's one-and-a-half man company did the same in a fraction of this time and he had to wait for the availability of a M240 model to start development of his case.

RRS baseplates, Novoflex LER-LEM..... Need I say more.

Anyway, congrats Leica for this award and also congrats to Dr. Andreas Kaufmann and Alfred Schopf for the nomination as entrepreneur of the year. Ceremony will take place June 7, 2014. That's a LONG wait !
