IWC Doppel Posted September 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have used these since my M8, the most comfortable and best investment to date. The TU wore off it's paint so I stripped the lot off and the suede loop is still holding up well. 20k+ shots with this combination, saved a dropped camera over 3 times, allows me to carry discreetly for hours. Love them, and thought I'd share Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Guest Posted September 3, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2013 ... How practical are these additional parts, if you shoot in portrait mode?
pfhrased Posted September 3, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2013 How practical are these additional parts, if you shoot in portrait mode? Very. The thumbs-up allows you to angle the camera more easily, and something like the suede loop (i.e. the leicagoodies sling) mean you can dangle it rather than be forced to rest the weight entirely on the supporting left hand, which you're also using to focus. IWC Doppel Posted September 3, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted September 3, 2013 I do feel more 'connected' and as one with the 'sling' and the TU too. I can easily shoot at 1/2 focal length in low light and get away with 1/4. I have many successful shots with 1/8th using a 35mm in low light. I know some landscape focussed shooters would be in horror at this but for close up people shots its doable IMO. I rarely take portraits for people who want a portrait, more grab shots of people for me. If you adjust the sling correctly (placing of holes) its extremely comfortable, I will literally walk around with the camera in standby in hand for many hours at a time. theno23 Posted September 3, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 3, 2013 What does the suede attach too? Do you have some grip or something on the baseplate?
IWC Doppel Posted September 3, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted September 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The suede is a figure of 8 with holes just big enough to go over the strap lug then a small 10mm or so sprung ring (can't recall the tecnical name. A small key fob or strap ring) that secures I'll take some pictures later

250swb Posted September 3, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 3, 2013 credit where credit is due, www.leicagoodies.com for 'The Sling' I find it a total pain in the ass, why anybody should need to get such a death like grip on a camera I don't know, it makes going outside into the fresh air with a camera claustrophobic, like it is stuck to your hand. lucerne Posted September 3, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 3, 2013 Excellent product, but I've discovered that the handling is made better with the addition of the Leica handgrip. Note: If you need to mount an external finder, you'll need the thumbs up version with integrated shoe. With the grip and thumbs up, handling in portrait mode is much more comfortable as there is more grip available.

pfhrased Posted September 5, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 5, 2013 The suede looks much more pleasant than the rough-edged nylon of my leicagoodies sling - did you just buy a small section of it and punch holes through? I might have to try that..
Guest Leicamensch Posted September 5, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 5, 2013 I would probably add a small nylon washer over the lug but before attaching the ring in case the suede tears and loop a string on the suede to the lug. If the suede slips of or tears you might still catch the camera.

It comes off only when I need to connect a flash trigger. I find the TU to be sufficient. But if I ever feel like I need a more robust solution, I'll be adding this. Thank you for sharing. IWC Doppel Posted September 5, 2013 Author Share #17 Posted September 5, 2013 Here you go, hopefully self explanatory. It's surprisingly strong and has been used for 3+ years and I wear it hours at a time. Actual dimensions will depend on the thickness of the suede and the size of your hands. Darn just realised I mean 155mm in total between the outer holes Welcome, dear visitor! IWC Doppel Posted November 25, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted November 25, 2013 This saved my camera over the weekend, I had my camera knocked out of my hand by a speedy clumsy labrador.... The ring was stretched and mangled, it would have tumbled down a steep muddy slope and I'm sure the bill would have been large. I then took the stretched and buckled clip off and the leather was fine, not torn and then spent the rest of the morning realising how uncomfortable it is to carry the camera without this support. New clip filled, now as good as new
mirekti Posted November 26, 2013 Share #19 Posted November 26, 2013 I use Thumbs up on the M240, and I might DIY this sling, it looks really useful. The only thing I dislike about the thumbs up is the fact I cannot put an external viewfinder while it is on Other that a perfect accessory.
