Concerning slow start up times I think this is also a non-issue, with the understanding that the M240 requires fast (ultra fast) SD cards. I know this isn't the answer that people want to hear, but I'm afraid it's probably the only solution going forward.

You can't run an F1 car on regular gasoline...

I would not mind if this was the case, but my impression from the dedicated thread we had here a while ago was that even the fastest cards on the market would not go under 2s.

My Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s (32 GB) does it in 2.7 seconds and is the slowest out of the 16 cards i've been testing so far. The 64 GB will be faster if i find one hopefully but i don't hold my breath to say the truth.

That is very strange LCT as several of my friends in HK are using this same card and we are all getting well under 2 sec. startup times, so I wonder if there might be an issue with your particular card. Please let me know if you get an opportunity to test another sample of this card. Again, IMHO there is no noticeable difference between the 32 and 64 gig versions.

Thanks!

My Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mbps cards (32 and 64 gig) both start up in just over one second.

This is great news. I have the 45mbps version and it starts in 4. I was a bit reluctant to spend over a hundred on the 64gig 95mbps to find that it is not much better.

Hi Stephen. I expect to do another test on a Sandisk 95 MB/s 64 GB card and will report the results here but as far as my M240 is concerned, i think i've made up my idea. Look at the Toshiba 95 MB/s 32 GB and you will see that its results are in the same ballpark (2.5 s.). Next test will be on a new Toshiba 260 MB/s 16 GB card when it is available. I suspect it will confirm that, as far as my body is concerned again, the smaller and the faster the better card.

Thanks again for your efforts, and it will be interesting to see how this new Toshiba card, which is rated 2.5X faster than my SDExtPro 95mbps cards, performs in the M240. Again, I'm happy with my startup times, which are in the 1.5 sec or slightly better range. Even with LV set to ON my M240 will startup in under 2 sec.

Loaded the new version on Saturday and yesterday took lots of pictures of grandchildren under very mixed lighting conditions indoors with windows.

The results using straight forward ACR 8.2 are a major improvement. Gone are the over red flesh tones - mothers of very small babies are sensitive to such things - and the corrections for the 28mm f/2 Summicron ASPH are noticeably improved.

WB much better, auto exposure much better.......

So far I'm very happy - well done Leica.

1.4 sec.

Jaapv, I have no accurate means of measuring start-up time but using SanDisk, Extreme Pro, 16GB, 95MB/s cards my start-up time is always so short - I estimate well under 2 sec. - that it never gives me the slightest problem.

For what it's worth I always format my cards in the camera when I put a card in that has had all the files on it copied to my disk drives and backups - that is just the way I work - and I only ever shoot DNG compressed.

  • 3 weeks later...

The copyright feature now is usable—but still isn't any useful. The copyright information tag still is limited to 17 characters (which is way too short for any meaningful copyright notice), and the copyright symbol © is still missing from the alphabet (and no, "©" is not legally equivalent). And the Copyright Status in the IPTC data keeps saying, "Unknown" even when the camera's copyright feature is on. :(

Is just me that finds it truly astounding that initially they overlooked including a © in the character list, but then again neglected to included it with this new firmware update??

Actually, astounding may not be the best word, maybe bizarre is better at this point...
