I understand that new Firmware is hiding in the wild (2.0.0.11). I don't know if this is beta at the moment and Leica have a new lot of beta testers. I was a beta tester for both M8 and M9 but have not heard anything officially on the new firmware.

Anyone know anything or would Leica send out a hit team if you told :)

New firmware for the M9 - we should be so lucky!

No it's for the M240 I have heard a whisper on.

Hi Wilson,

Hmm. Are you sure?

Going from 1.x.x.x to 2.x.x.x seems to promise a brand new experience! :D

If true I might accept my silver M soon. :)

Yes, some forum members are beta-testing a new M240 firmware.

They all agreed not to forward the software and not to disclose any details about the software and the process.

Leica is not going to send out hit teams (not as far I know at least) but give the guys in Solms enough time to do their job.

No release date set until now, testing still ongoing.

Thanks for your patience ;)

Let's just hope the beta tester are making a good job. I used to be a beta tester for the M8 and M9's firmwares too, but this time I'm not in.

I hope they're concentrating on startup timing, since it's just a pain in the a** with the M240.

Sadly I don't think there is a chance of VF-4 compatibility until every last EFV-3 is sold off. Pity as the VF-4 is a HUGE improvement (I can do back to back comparisons on my EP-5). The auto eye detection just transforms the ease of use.

Better Italian flag correction for wide lenses, correction of the communication to the SF-58D, faster start up times, bug removal (battery discharge and lock ups), improved focus peaking and changing the way the EV biasing is implemented would be what I would be looking for.

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I agree that they need to look at start-up time and battery drain as priorities.

One simple thing that they could fix is with exposure bracketing on, record the EV offset in the Exif data, so that HDR programs can detect bracketed sequences more easily, and so that it is easier to see what the EV offset of the current pic is in Lightroom, (Most cameras already do this.)

They also need to put the level function into a more accessible place (even on the Set screen would be an improvement).

Finally, when you are in auto-detect 6-bit coding mode and the lens that you attach has no such coding, the camera should give some sort of warning, so that those of us who are forgetful and have a mixture of coded and non-coded lenses can use auto-detect mode without trouble. The warning could be a beep, flashing viewfinder indication, message on the rear screen, etc.

I hope they'll improve the way A mode operates with Auto settings.

For exampe when I set Auto ISO to 3200 and Minimum shutter speed to 1/125s I don't want the camera to go below 1/125s. I'd rather have underexposed photo than to get blurry image because my shutter speed went to 1/15s.
