Rudy in the Round

Rudy Giuliani was a very successful, hard driving prosecutor who, once he had his reputation, became Mayor of New York City. His administration was quite controversial when he left office, but he reemerged in the national consciousness following the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, at which time his fame spread widely. He is now one of many who have begun campaigning to become President. This is looking down from the 17th floor of the Reuters Building to the NASDAQ building across 7th Avenue and Broadway at 43rd Street, in times Square. More New York photos are on our site.

Was he as responsible for cleaning up NY as we are lead to believe? Zero tolerance was his? You know I had to check to see that he wasnt Mayor at 911, and had no idea he was Knighted by The Queen. The subconscous sway of the media huh. No wonder he is on Reuters.

In NY, Rudy is both worshipped and vilified for his cleaning up of the city and for his zero tolerance. Outside of NY he is mainly known for his leadership following the attacks. The photo is actually from Reuters to the NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation system) building. NASDAQ & Reuters got into cross branding in certain media. In this case it’s the lights on the building. Rudy’s picture is actually a gigantic TV image, and news, videos and photos continually display on the building. If a firm wants to have a building in Times Square it must agree to provide a certain very high level of illumination, usually in signs and animation.

Thank you. There is no question that Rudy made a big difference in the quality of life in NYC. Those who vilify him state that his methods were frequently heavy-handed, and that he can become belligerent, uncompromising and argumentative.

Very few people outside of the New York Metro area report witnessing this behavior. Consequently, if he does get nominated for president his support will be lower in New York than in the country as a whole.

Rudy will get less support in NY because NYC, at least, is so Democrat. Rudy was not popular until 9/11 however he, in combination with the Police Chief Bratton did clean up NYC. Of course, a rising economy helped as well. The cleanup was interesting in that many of the things that irritated people were removed like window washers at traffic stops, homeless. Now, this has nothing to do with Leica and RF except that these people were really photogenic in a way and you have to look in other places to find the underbelly of the City now.
