I'll be very interested to read more about this camera and see if it's the "rebadge" or not... I'm not at all interested in a camera as a fashion statement, though I am a woman. However I am interested in a small, slim, very good camera with sensible, good controls and very good image quality. I used to have the X1 and it was very nice. I look forward to more info on this camera. In the meantime, it's interesting to see that they have a number of Leica cases for this and, alas?, all but one is rather "fashionable". Here's a link to Leica Store Washington DC's site: Compact Cameras : Leica Store Washington DC which you can scroll through if you're interested...but the only Leica made pouch that looks good to me is: C-Pouch Black : Leica Store Washington DC - just in case anyone has any interest.:)

I found my case - called C-Case black (no color choice?). Anyway I've bought that design for the D-Lux4, X1, and D-Lux6, since it has a shoulder strap and can be carried anywhere, even places where something that looks like a camera bag would be a no-no. I'd advise a case that doesn't have any openings, because carried in a pocket or purse the camera will eventually suck dust in electrostatically and fail. Many people say they have no problem carrying an unsealed digicam, but it's like Russian Roulette.

Thanks for your advice, Bob - definitely not interested in Russian Roulette! I hadn't seen that one but just checked it out - thank you.

But no more looking around at accessories for me, until I hear back some hands on reports.;)

Concurrent with the launch of the Leica C, Leica is also extending its service portfolio. This provides particular benefits for Leica C customers, as they can take advantage of a secure image-archiving package as an exclusive starting offer. More details will be announced in the near future.

- from the Leica Forum blog announcement which brought me in here this morning.

What exactly does this mean? Perhaps because I've only owned one Leica, I'm not familiar with it's "service portfolio".

It's a rebadged Panasonic as already mentioned. A friend of mine bought one of the other Panasonic super zoom compacts (with a Leica lens) and is very happy with it.

It has every indication of being just that, however lacking any positive info about possible demands from Leica for a tighter QC or better lens (the Pana LF1 lens has some serious problems at the edges), I will compare the LF1 and C directly when my camera arrives.

I would be very interested to hear your report. I am not keen to pay a lot extra for a red badge if there is no difference between the C and LF1.

Given the Type C has a built in EVF, ostensibly a similar sized sensor and MP, has a wider zoom range and is $100 cheaper than the Dlux 6, what are the reasons to get the Dlux 6?

There's a post on dpreview in the panasonic forum from 2 months ago comparing the LX7/D-Lux6 and LF1 lenses in an actual photograph - it should shock you.

That's a quote from a Norwegian website.

They're not necessarily Leica's own words.

Andy,

You're right. I mistook your post for referring to Leica's own marketing. I see now that the text originates from bresson.no, the Norwegian importer and distributor. This is the original page.

I just quickly read a few posts regarding the comparison and looked at the photos. I believe there may be a slight advantage for the D-Lux 6 but not much.

Is that the comparison by Dale Thorn?

That sounds right - has some dumpsters in the center. But look at them at 100 percent and the LF1 edges are really bad - smeared or streaky or something - don't know.

In spite of the superiority of the D-Lux6 lens, the LF1 probably can't be beat by any camera its size. So if the Leica C is no better, I won't care as long as the build quality is good. Panasonic's tin-can feel to their LX7 and LF1 bodies doesn't impress me favorably after owning the D-Lux6.

You know, Bob, you did make me laugh with that "tin-can feel" comment. ;) It does make a difference to me how a camera feels, as well.

I apologize for sounding like I'm bagging on Panasonic - they have made some very high quality camera bodies, but their non-Leica lenses, I dunno. The zoom lens I got with the G1 was a fright.

Oh, I didn't take it that way. I know they make plenty of great cameras and many are well loved by their owners.

It's all different strokes for different folks, wants and needs and all that.

Anyway, I look forward to learning more - so I'll keep my eye on this thread for sure.
