Advertisement Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Hi Sandokan, Take a look here New film manufacturer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
CalArts 99 Posted July 31, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2013 fwiw, Ferrania has been a film company since the 1920s. It's been spun off numerous times including a stint with 3M as the owner. I think it was also once owned by an Italian shipping company. Its film products were nothing really that extraordinary although the 3M brand Scotch chrome E-6 was interesting for its somewhat 'different' palette. I think Holga and toy cameras users liked their film offerings (e.g., the Solaris films.) The newest owner is just the owner of the name brand and the old buildings and equipment. Nonetheless, it's always nice to see 'revivals' of film like this and maybe something good will come about from it, who knows.
250swb Posted July 31, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2013 They have been one to avoid in the past. But nowadays these older names are often revived because they commission film in their own branding from other film manufacturers, so if they aren't making it themselves you never know, it may be good this time around. aesop Posted July 31, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2013 ...quality and/or ownership issues notwithstanding, this has to be seen as a plus for film - in much the same way the loss of a film brand or manufacturer is seen as a minus. I echo CalArts 99's final sentence.

earleygallery Posted August 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2013 I have signed up. As the larger manufacturers drop films or fall by the wayside it certainly opens up opportunities for smaller companies like this. What might be a crumb for Fuji could be a mighty feast for Ferrania. This can only be good news. And please, don't moan that their prices might be higher, you buy Leica for god's sake!
gyoung Posted August 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well I hope the produce something better than the ferraniacolor I used to process in the 60s, it was pretty awful. Switched to Kodachrome as soon as I couild afford it, and Agfa was far better in those days too, Gerry

Steve Hope they get it right this time around. We need all the film choices we can get, in light of how many emulsions have gone extinct.
