drdannn Posted March 15, 2014 Share #241 Posted March 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last Sunday July 21 I finally received the M 240 as you all know a very long wait. Years we have been waiting for this camera. Best professional camera 2013 in my hands. When I received the camera which I purchased through Hong Kong I immediately attached the 50/1.4. Then finally three days later last Thursday July 25 I found some time to take out the camera for some shooting. Feels terrific and the low light ability does not seem to be an issue any longer. Then after 24 hours out in the open I anxiously set down and uploaded the images on the computer. Big apple, big screen on Lightroom. Wau what appeared blew me away in every sense. Colors are fantastic and the white balance seems to be only slightly off. I took about 200 shots and for a very short time I felled like I was in heaven. But then my When using the blower, always pump it a few times first to get the dust out of the blower. Or keep the blower in a plastic zip lock. Use the blower first because you will find that the blower will blow chamber dust right onto the sensor. Your chamber will be clean, but your sensor will be dirtier. Then use a swab or the artic butterfly. Be careful with the artic butterfly and do not extend the brush tips farther out than the sensor or you will get oil on the brush and that will extend to the sensor when brushing it after you get past the green edge of the sensor. Also, if you use live view you will have more dust. One way I have found to dislodge the dust without a formal cleaning is to turn the camera face down, set the shutter release on "continuous", and then fire off 3 or 4 shutter frames. The vibration will loosen the dust; well, at least in my case it does. The best way I have found when I really need to clean it well, simply, is the Visible Dust Swab and Sensor Clean. Do not buy the other sensor cleaners from visible dust unless you have oil on the sensor. Another great way to clean the sensor is the "Pentax 39357 Image Sensor Cleaning Kit". You can see a u-tube demonstration. I have used this many times for some quick spots and it is fast, efficient, and does absolutely no harm to the sensor. Best, Dan F. Advertisement Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Hi drdannn, Take a look here Leica M 240 what is going on. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted March 15, 2014 Share #242 Posted March 15, 2014 Just as a point of information. The Pentax cleaning kit is the same as the Eye-Lead. The Pentax kit does not seem to be available in Europe but the Eye-lead is. A pad of replacement sticky papers for cleaning the lollipop of the Pentax/Eye-Lead is quite expensive, once you have used up the originals. I was very tempted to use the roll of sticky paper on a roller, that I get from my dry cleaners for removing dust from clothes (when you tear off a layer to expose a fresh sticky surface). Then I thought of the cost of a replacement sensor for the M240 Wilson
jdsheepdog Posted March 25, 2014 Share #243 Posted March 25, 2014 Well, I have had my M for about two weeks now, and to say the least I am very upset. I had happily anticipated joining in the plethora of threads about how awful it all was. I even had my legal team camped on the steps at Solms, The bill for coffee and pastries alone is enormous, but then they are Leica pastries, with a red dot in the middle. The box arrived, from Western Australia. The first problem was that the dealer did exactly what he said he would do, and he did it promptly. What’s more, he priced the camera fairly, and was even courteous and friendly. I have had to delete the furious letter I wrote ready to send. The Luigi case actually arrived before the camera did, but there is no point complaining to Luigi about this, as his non existent English is even worse than my non existent Italian. When it arrived, I pulled it carefully from the courier box, replaced the inner box with a dummy, and repacked the styrofoam chips exactly as I had taken them out, in the reverse order, before taking it down to the safety deposit box. Then I inspected the tape on the outer box. It was not even broken! Another disappointment! Fortunately, when I pulled the little tab thingy, the box fell open. It just bloody fell open. Front, back and sides, they all fell down. I will start a thread on this, and I will send the box back to Solms for Leica to close it again. Without going into how I took the camera from its little bags, which were all distressingly perfect, I put the strap on and watched, and waited. By morning not one of the lugs had fallen off. The rest is just a litany of issues. It turns on promptly. There are no little lines, or dots, absolutely bloody nothing wrong at all. What is the point of spending all that money if there is nothing to whinge about? The final thing, the last straw that breaks the camels back, is that the pictures are superb, and so far the only mistakes have been mine. Given time, I am sure that I will be able to blame this on Leica as well.
jaapv Posted March 25, 2014 Share #244 Posted March 25, 2014 Bummer:mad: For the price Leica should provide a fair number of issues… Congtulations and enjoy!

lct Posted March 26, 2014 Share #246 Posted March 26, 2014 Are you sure your sensor is as clean as it should be? Check again at f/22 if you dare but don't forget to take the pills as a precaution .

AlanG Posted March 26, 2014 Share #248 Posted March 26, 2014 ...Today the M is expensive so it should hardly be controversial that those with good earnings are buying the camera (as in days past). Sadly it's just that there seems to be less of a middle class these days (in the US at the least) who can afford an expensive camera of any type. But I applaud those who stretch their budget to buy a digital Leica, they are terrific tools but most professionals own two systems anyway. I wonder what kind of camera hedge fund managers choose? The good news is that plenty of inexpensive cameras have the potential to produce photos that are as good or better than those typically produced by the most expensive cameras. So the middle class is well served. I have some sadness for the plight of the middle class in the US but their inability to buy a Leica is not very high up on my list of reasons.
