Hi All

Although the new m240 is as scarce as hen"s teeth, I have gotten a substantial amount of orders for eyepieces. My question is this:

1) Do all the owners wear glasses and do they battle to focus.Maybe elderly people?

2) Is it difficult to focus with the m240?

3) Is this pure coincidence?

Maybe the experts can shed some light on this.

Best regards

Walter:)

1. No, and obviously it isn't only the elderly who wear glasses.

2. I believe the M240 is one of the easier Leica rangefinders to focus, almost as good as the M3.

3. Yup.

M240s are slowly making their way into customer's hands, and I believe many are taking "advantage" of the extra time to purchase accessories, such as spare batteries, EVFs, chargers, half cases and even custom eye pieces. But of course your eyepiece is not specific to the M240, so perhaps it's just your reputation for a quality product that is resulting in increased orders?

Lots of rich teenagers around you Walter? ;)

« 2) Is it difficult to focus with the m240? »

It is the easiest M to focus with in my experience.

Photogs using an eyepiece with their previous body did not sell the latter i guess.

So not that many teenagers around you definitely. :D

Just as fyi, Walter, I have astigmatism and wear glasses (don't like contacts). I need the glasses not just for camera use, but for general viewing, especially at distance.

I'm not a customer of your product, although I read good things about it here on the forum, since I would still need glasses for general purposes (to find the photo opportunity), and would not want to take them on and off just to take a picture. And, in daytime, I always wear sunglasses (prescription), so again these would be a pain to take on and off. The glasses provide perfect correction for both focusing and general viewing.

I'm not sure I'm typical, but you asked questions presumably to better understand your customer base, and so I offer this as one explanation why I am not a customer like many others.

I've done this with M cameras for over 30 years. But my mom still doesn't consider me elderly.

I'm finding the M easier to focus than the M9. I wear glasses for near and middle distances but I don't need them at all for focussing the M, only for reading the menu items on the screen. Particularly the red items!

I wear glasses and find the M the easiest M to date to focus, noticeably easier than the M9.

I also agree with Jeff's comments. I was tempted to order your product, but it seems more troublesome to take off my glasses to shoot that to just leave them on.

I wear glasses and don't want to be taking them on and off. It would be interesting if there was a version of your product optimised for eye-glass wearers. I know that it is possible to mount a dioptre correction lens which helps, but it is not particularly friendly to spectacles. [... and mine fell off and was lost.]

Hi Rob

Basically the eyepiece is your prescription lens mounted on the camera itself. I started this thread because i was interested why i have so many m240 customers compared to the other m- cameras. I would not like to discuss the merits of the eyepiece on the forum as it would be unfair to other advertisers and i do have to keep the moderators happy...;)

Best regards

Walter

As said, Leica improved the tolerances of the mechanics...

I think this is just a guess; I am not aware of Leica saying this. With each new digital model someone on the forum raises the camera tolerances, but it's not clear when/if Leica has raised the tolerances.

Not really a guess....
