Fantastic, as usual, Chris.  You seem to be a magnet for beautiful models!   I can't help but wonder why you did not clone out the birthmark on her forehead.  Did the model insist on keeping it?

Chiaroscuro
M-A APO 50 & Macro-Elmar-M ADOX Color Implosion

In an antique store 53 years ago, I bought this original photograph of John H. Malona and his wife, Melvina. Their names were written in pencil on the back, a very well-schooled cursive. I asked my wife to run an Ancestry.com search, and she found that they married in 1858, but John died in 1862. My wife also located a descendant, and I offered to send him the original photograph, evidence of a moment in his family’s history 161 years ago, but he thought the digital he could add to the family tree online was sufficient.  I was elated to know the history, that this was a photograph of the record of a brief marriage and was no doubt in the hands of John and Melvina.

For this construct, I wanted to use Josef Albers’s image layering, like lapse dissolves in cinema used to give a sense of time passing. I started with the marriage photograph, then reshot it out of focus as a note of John passing and leaving Melvina. I included my 19th-century wood letterpress type because everyone needs at least one alphabet. There is always that orchestration of text and image, but forgive me, I’ve left out the orchestra itself.
