Showstopper! We're outside, looking in--quiet surveillance. Is there another kind? Three zones on entry. Reading left, two women, one in white contrasting with one in black, and understated in the chiascuro of this vignette is the shipboard binocular for observation. There are no voices on this soundtrack, isolated afternoon conversation, almost hermetically sealed and smartly framed. Then reading the next zone, a man almost obscured, leaning against the window that reflects the third zone: the observation deck and more telling, the glaring flat, limitless sea that mirrors the flat white table inside the ship. There's the contrast of the passengers inside against that stainless expanse of ocean, the inspiration of Vija Celmins, Gerhard Richter, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Michelangelo Antonioni. I realize that I've "overstated" using a series of four examples learned from Defoe, but this is a composition that whispers so articulately, we hear it from the back of the theatre. Bravo!

Cheers,

Rog

Glad to be in the audience.

Annual, but yet, somewhat impromptu antique tractor parade that runs down my road. Caught me by surprise as I headed out for Sunday walk.

Can't see much wrong with the new lens Mike, your barrel distortion comment notwithstanding.

Gary

The curves in the vertical poles in the first photo are really bugging me, the photo of the train doesn't show any distortion though. I just have to remember to keep the camera level when I use this lens.

Another busy stretch of work (I'm a freelance graphic designer for TV and film), and a period where I was kind'a burnt out on photography... Then, last week I found myself hitting the BuyItNow button on a beautiful Fuji GW690iii. So now I am the proud owner of a real, honest-to-goodness "Texas Leica"!! Yee-Haw!

I have to say, now that I have experienced 6x9cm, it will be VERY hard to go back to 35mm. 6x9 is just incredible.

There's a reason they call it the "Texas Leica". It's big. REALLY big. Just. BIG. I had to dig out an old messenger bag to carry it around NYC!

And a few images taken with the GW690iii. The 90mm f/3.5 lens is roughly equivalent to a 40mm f/1.5 in 35mm terms.
