Is it a vase that's causing the spiral reflection? The egg sits in a glas candle holder which stands on a lightbox which iluminates the holder from the bottom. The structure and the depth of the egg is modeled with two softboxes. Edited September 14, 2024 by DreiPunkte

Brilliant concept of the luminescent shadow of projected light, simultaneously the thing seen and the meaning of seeing. Bookend of a performance by Hula Hoop Girl keeping those ideas spinning. Applause, applause. Thank you sincerely Rog. When I found Hula Hoop girl among some old transparencies there was something about her, the theatrical setting and her hand gestures that strongly reminded me of Edward Hopper’s “Girlie Show 1941”. The translucent shadows/reflections of the old bottles melting in the last evening light was something I hadn’t ever noticed before and it was one of those moments where I just ran to get a camera before it disappeared, playing with various compositions. The Natura 1600 film in the camera I fortuitously happened to grab, a roll that was generously gifted to me, just happened (IMO) to express the form and luminous quality of the subject really well - this was dumb luck on my part. Thank you so much for conflating the two images - taken decades apart - and for your very kind words. Thank you so much for conflating the two images - taken decades apart - and for your very kind words. Coincidentally, your Hula Hoop Girl also called to mind the color palette of Hopper’s “New York Movie“ (particularly his note “. . . interior in dark rich color, dark garnet, pink lights from under boxes, etc.) Thanks for the heads up on “Girly Show.” Comment on “Girly Show” in Edward Hopper: A Catalog Raisonne: “The exuberant pose of the stripper recalls that of the jester on a stage.” Hopper certainly would have had Jo pose for Hula Hoop Girl. What is remarkable is how you captured Hula Hoop Girl in that split second that made the composition perfect. You have the gift, or is it blind luck? Both, probably. Bravo.
stray cat Posted September 15, 2024 Share #91284 Posted September 15, 2024 Blind luck is my considered opinion, but thank you. 🤭 I found this interesting re "Girlie Show 1941": https://www.edwardhopper.net/girlie-show.jsp and of course this one you so shrewdly observe is another favourite: https://www.edwardhopper.net/newyork-movie.jsp
