If you look at RX1 construction you will see that the lens extends through most of the body.

In addition there is no inbuilt EVF, which I love as there is a "small" option, but gets panned here.

lets wait and see the size of the Nex 9.

I've turned the corner on this, too, and I like that the camera is modular. Plus, there's potential for Sony to release better EVFs in the future.

When you look at a NEX camera, the sensor is about half way back into the camera, and the sensor of the RX1 is near the back. I'd imagine a FF NEX to be closer to the M240 in thickness, if it has a tilt screen. If not, maybe a bit thinner than the M240.

As far as lenses, yes, they'll be pretty large compared to the RX1's.

The mini M doesn't have a view finder so no rangefinder and is therefore not an M. It seems to be an X2 with interchangeable lenses so much like the Pen but with APS-C sensor. It probably won't have the M mount or may need an adapter for M lenses.

Just a guess. Lincoln

… but as the “M” in “Leica M” stands for “Messsucher” (Rangefinder), removing the rangefinder would be sort of … well. Weird?

Hrm.

Marketing people have short memories. IBM named their System/360 equating its all-round applicability to the 360 degrees in a circle. Some years later it was upgraded to System/370. The circle got bigger?

A replacement to M = Messsucher has been found by Leica already: M = Mirrorless, which explains why we've got those ridiculous "Mini M", "Micro M" and "Nano M" in the last Leica ad campaign. Bad omen IMO.

After reading this entire thread and considering all the points of view, here is my two cents. My photoshop fake below takes that other photoshop fake one step further by proposing the idea of an X-EVIL.

Such a camera would not cannibalize the existing M market but rather fill the large hole in their product line by entering the very popular and growing mirrorless interchangeable APS market represented by Sony NEX and Fuji X. The current X2 body is very close in size to the NEX 7. It was pointed out earlier in this thread ( http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/285598-mini-m-52.html#post2416030 ) that CMOSiS may already have a "Mini" sensor, which if it is APS-C (or H) could conceivably retain a 24MP resolution to compete with the NEX 7. Plus it has been rumored that Leica has been working on an EVIL camera for quite some time, even dropping hints that it would be "at least APS-C size" If not FF, could the X be a possible platform?

By adding a new interchangeable AF lens line, as many have suggested, Leica can appeal to a much larger customer base that will never consider manual focus lenses or RF cameras. Although my suggested price is much higher than competing APS models, many will choose Leica for superior optics and build quality. For $1,500 more than the X2, you get a higher resolution sensor and built-in EVF. A new X series of compact AF lenses would be optimized for digital sensors (like the new Zeiss Touit AF line for APS) and be similar in quality and price to existing Summarit-M lenses, without cannibalizing the premium M line. This camera system could grow Leica's marketshare and help them to achieve their 1% goal.

The M family (M, MM, and M-E) remains FF with top-of-the-line lenses and RF. An X-EVIL would offer existing M owners an affordable second body to mount their M lenses on. If Leica made an adaptor similar to the Speedbooster, M and R lenses could retain their focal length and gain a stop, alleviating the crop factor. The X-EVIL also provides an alternative to M for those who want a lightweight compact body able to take any Leica lens, including AF.

Not really expecting such a camera next week, but I hope Leica has something similar in their pipeline.

How do you know... do you work for Leica? I read the post and I'm sure LR has their "sources" but still not buying that he "knows" or that they'd hype up a camera like this. Surest way to never have any such marketing campaign ever be taken seriously again.

If this was apsh it would be very tempting, even at the high price point.

Good morning, did someone realize the beautiful weather outside? Pick your cameras, go out shooting and come back on Tuesday when you´ll know the facts. That´s exactly what I´ll do now.

That's fine. But is it ok with you if we read the Internet and take photos? I might actually do other stuff too. People can do more than on thing in a day you know
