How would you like it if the focal length in the M Mini was the equivallent of a 50mm lens?

To go with a Nikon A model 18mm (=28mm on FF) ?

And if the AF was REALLY fast, I'd be ready to accept the lens wearing out from the permanent whizz-in&out. The latest chip should be in there, not like in the A model with the chip from the 2010 D7000 and not the new D7100.

I love the idea of the 2 small cameras with fast AF though it would still hurt to lose the lenses in the future..And the 28 must be a leica for me..I tried the Ricoh GR V (similar IQ) for a day, Leica is in a completely different league..

The A model with the lens-hood on looks like a mini-leica and it sure feels like one. With the major disadvantage you mention, but I'm still a M8 user - no need for the newest here. The latest Ricoh's lighter in looks and haptics, even less "brass Leica" than the X 1&2. The designer of the Ricoh lens-hood should return to Hoya filter-boxes.

I mention non-Leica products here, because buyers do have a choice and because the success of the M8 and specially M9 were based on the fact, that there were no alternatives available.

It's a very good mock up if it isn't real. Which means that this "Mini M" is actually an X3, with nothing in common whatsoever with an M camera, not even the lens.

Who's to say that there won't be two cameras coming in June? The X1 was a complete surprise when it was announced alongside the M9.

If it's a fixed lens how to explain the camera on the right hand side? The lens on the left side couldn't collapse into such a small space. My guess would be - assuming it's genuine - that it has removable lenses, initially a zoom and prime pancake.

And the camera has no lens lock release button = fixed lens. Which would make it something of a Digilux2 successor (that should make Thorsten happy ;)), albeit with a slow lens probably because of size, with an optional stick-on EVF.

However it being an in house camera annoys me - as further diversion of resources from sorting out the firmware e.g. discrete mode on the M9 and MM.

The people working on this camera will have nothing to do with firmware on the M9/MM

Well, my balloon has definitely gone flat.
Balloons have an annoying habit of deflating.

I sincerely hope nobody cancelled his M order on basis of Internet hype. The rear of the line is a long way back...:(

Yes, some will be disappointed if this turns out to be true, not in the least Leica themselves.

I'm sure they would have wanted this guessing game to continue for two more weeks.

Like I said:

The lens really surprises me. I would have expected Leica to have an understanding of the importance of fast lenses to those of us who buy their products. A maximum aperture of f/2.0 would have much greater appeal to me. F/3.5-6.4, no thank you.

Ahhhh as such it will be a very good backup for me!!

If this is true, I 'll go for the M (when delivery becomes easy...) at least I could use all my M-lenses (even R-). Wait and see, as usual, the Summer is not so far.

Agreed, although a decent f2 zoom is going to put this way out of the price point it needs to sit in.

With an APS-C sensor, you'd have to go to an even larger aperture to get a decently shallow depth of field.

A f2.0 zoom for APS-C would have been huge in relationship to the camera body, I guess.

Just look at the D-Vario-Elmarit 14-50 for 4/3rds - and that one is 2.8.

Note, btw, that with a price of 2450 Euro there is still a huge gap to the M series - maybe place for a next step up in camera bodies in the future? Maybe even phasing out the X2?

This is hardly the camera Leica will pull out of the box shown. There is no way that camera would fit in the box - if it is, it's just plain cheating!

I think that you are taking this marketing game a bit too seriously...
