wlaidlaw Posted July 1, 2013 Author Share #82 Posted July 1, 2013 The VF-4 does not work on the M, won't even power up...so I assume the same with the X Vario Disappointing but not unexpected news. I have a VF-4 arriving tomorrow together with an Olympus EP-5. I will just keep my fingers crossed that a firmware update will be made at some later date for Leica's own version of the VF-4. Wilson Hi Wilson, Amazing, I'll get a VF-4 on Wednesday for use on my OM-D E-M5. I already updated the firmware on the OM-D E-M5 and an EP-2. They say the EP-5 has the same kind of sensor as the OM-D E-M5.

digitalfx Posted July 2, 2013 Share #92 Posted July 2, 2013 You might say that.Unfortunately that's all you get for now. Well I have a VF-4 sitting on my desk waiting for an update The VF-4 has a few features besides the obvious spec differences that are a big improvement. 1- The Diopter is not free like the VF-2, it has click stops and is very firm...no more adjusting setting every hour 2- the VF locks onto the M's hot shoe, unlike the VF-2 which is constantly getting pushed off the camera. CheshireCat Posted July 2, 2013 Share #93 Posted July 2, 2013 Well I have a VF-4 sitting on my desk waiting for an update Sure thing ! School is over, and I am confident Leica will find some high-school student willing to fix this issue in his spare time
wlaidlaw Posted July 2, 2013 Author Share #94 Posted July 2, 2013 Well I hope the VF-4 update is sooner rather than later because the 4 is a lot better on my Olympus EP-5 than the VF2. Other than a little bit of smearing, you would think it was a really good SLR optical VF in sharpness and size of screen. The screen is so big that with spectacles on, I struggle to see all of it. We will have a small black line top and bottom on the M240, as the screen is 4/3 size ratio, against the 3/2 image for the 240. However, it is still going to be a huge advance on the VF-2. It may be sacrilege to say it but it might be better than the x.68 optical viewer on the M240 and approaching the lovely x.91 VF on an M3. Wilson PS. The auto eye switching is great as well - just like my 2005 Sony R1 had!
CheshireCat Posted July 2, 2013 Share #95 Posted July 2, 2013 Well I hope the VF-4 update is sooner rather than later because the 4 is a lot better on my Olympus EP-5 than the VF2. Do you find the VF4 delay any better than VF2 ?
k-hawinkler Posted July 2, 2013 Share #96 Posted July 2, 2013 Do you find the VF4 delay any better than VF2 ? Isn't that a problem with the M? There is no comparable delay with the VF-2 on the OM-D E-M5.
wlaidlaw Posted July 2, 2013 Author Share #97 Posted July 2, 2013 Do you find the VF4 delay any better than VF2 ? Not sure which delay you are talking about. The black out delay is extremely short on my new EP-5 but I think that is more a function of the camera rather than the VF. The smearing is noticeably better on the VF-4 than the VF-2. As the 4 does not currently work on my M240, I cannot comment on how it would work on that. It is the big, bright and super sharp screen that you really notice. Functionality on the EP-2 is limited, with things like auto eye detect not working. One nice point is that the spring detent to hold the viewer in the horizontal position is far stronger on the 4 than my VF-2. I have dots of Blu-Tak holding the viewer down on the VF-2, as with the big eye-cup and spectacles, I kept knocking it away from the horizontal. CheshireCat Posted July 3, 2013 Share #98 Posted July 3, 2013 Isn't that a problem with the M?There is no comparable delay with the VF-2 on the OM-D E-M5. I thought the Oly had the same issue with VF-2. That for clarifying this.

lct Posted July 3, 2013 Share #100 Posted July 3, 2013 Could the new EVF escape the motion blur issue in spite of the slow frame rate of the camera?
