APO extenders for M?

Now that Liveview is available on M, perhaps Leica should consider making 1.4x & 2.0x extenders for M lens. What do you guys think?

Thank you but no, thanks. When I need anything longer than 135 mm then I'll grab my Minolta Tele Rokkor lenses. While most M lenses are better than the Rokkors, the latter are pretty good and certainly no worse than M lenses on tele converters.

 

But I would not be surprised if we're gonna see 180 mm or 280 mm M lenses in the foreseeable future.

But there is the Apo 180/3.4 R, which goes well with the Apo-M135.

They made an APO extender for the R system. It could certainly be used on the M with the adapter for R lens I would guess. It was fairly expensive in its day.

Two an 1.4x and 2x. But you cannot mount M lenses on them.

I had a 1.4 that I bought used in 1986 I believe. At that time it was $550 or something like that.

Definitely Leica should consider this, I am finding the R lenses to be rather large for the M. The lens ideally suited for this would be the 90mm apo, 90+2x would be nice. In addition, an extension tube would extend the usability of many M lenses, although image quality would be unknown. If Leica doesn't make a tube maybe a third party will.

It looks to me the lens works very well for longer distances.

It is an excellent lens, especially on centre, but it is an old design, so it is not quite as good as the 135 M Apo. or the newest Apo offerings of Leica R in the focal length. Still, it will be a whole lot better than a Summicro 90 R and 2x Apo extender. Related to price a very good buy as long as you steer away from the hopefuls at eBay.

I have just bought Zeiss Contax Mutars I and II 2X extenders at silly give away prices (around £100 for the two plus postage). I can use the M1 with my 28-85 Vario Sonnar and the M2 with the 300mm Tele Tessar. I have a feeling I can stack the M1 onto the M2 (with the M2 nearest the lens) on the 300mm to give me a 1200mm lens. These have very good reputations as tele extenders.

When they arrive from USA and Japan for the I and II respectively, I will let you know. I have ended up paying around 50% as much for postage as I did for the extenders.
