k-hawinkler Posted November 2, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted November 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guy, Clemens, Stuart, Iduna, Ben, Paul, Tri, Many thanks for your feedback, as always being appreciated. Iduna, New Mexico is really the "Land of Enchantment". Ben, Indeed, your area is hit hard. I hope you will be able to find normal circumstances soon. Paul, Here is a 100% crop of the Sun. We might be seeing three Sunspots here. The spots look pretty much round and not like birds, as in the following crop. As the image was shot wide open I don't think any of these are dust spots on the sensor either. For comparison, here is a crop of the flock of cranes. Here is another crop, showing the fire lookout station on top of St Peters Dome in the San Miguel Mountains. I just love this combination of the Leitz APO-Telyt-R 1:3.4/180 and the Sony NEX-7 extremely high resolution sensor.

allamande Posted November 8, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 8, 2012 K.-H. This is stunning and poetic! I hope they know what they are doing with that controlled burn (I think back to the Bandelier disaster). Ece
k-hawinkler Posted November 17, 2012 Author Share #12 Posted November 17, 2012 Ece, Thank you. OTOH, prescribed burns are much less likely to get out of control this time of year, i.e. after the summer monsoon rains, cool nights, and relatively little wind. Late spring or early summer have much worse conditions for these burns. The Bandelier disaster you refer to indeed developed out of a prescribed (controlled!) burn in May 2000, Cerro Grande Fire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Of course, nobody in their right mind would start such a burn in the summer. That would be pure madness.
