viramati Posted June 9, 2013 Share #61 Posted June 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Got rid of the red paint quite easily with acetone and a interdental brush. Not sure whether to leave the M as I don't mind it so much and without the red on the logo the whole thing sticks out less Welcome, dear visitor! Aluminium oxide is white isn't it? iirc it looks like a fine white powder. Pete.
viramati Posted June 9, 2013 Share #64 Posted June 9, 2013 Aluminium oxide is white isn't it? iirc it looks like a fine white powder. Pete. I think it is some sort of stainless steel and as the Leica lettering were exposed before I presume all will be OK Anyway I experimented the technique on the old top from my Grey M9 which I had left over from it's upgrade to the P version. I used Acetone, a cotton bud and the interdental brush shown to do the job Welcome, dear visitor! Peter H Posted June 9, 2013 Share #65 Posted June 9, 2013 Don't you think it looks a bit odd, still being a different colour from the body?
viramati Posted June 9, 2013 Share #66 Posted June 9, 2013 Well you can't have everything and for me it looks a hell of a lot better than big red dot!!!
Rick Posted June 9, 2013 Share #67 Posted June 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given some time you should be able to buy a black dot on eBay from China for five bucks. That's what I'm waiting for.

lct Posted June 9, 2013 Share #69 Posted June 9, 2013 Big black dot vs big red dot, both big dots anyway. Why are we treated like sandwich men by Leica?
mjh Posted June 9, 2013 Share #70 Posted June 9, 2013 Big black dot vs big red dot, both big dots anyway. Why are we treated like sandwich men by Leica? The dot gets bigger the longer you stare at it … In reality the diameter is just 12 mm and it is a rare occurrence that anyone takes notice of the red dot. At least that is my experience. lct Posted June 9, 2013 Share #71 Posted June 9, 2013 Why sticking the red dot if nobody takes notice of it then?
mjh Posted June 9, 2013 Share #72 Posted June 9, 2013 Why sticking the red dot if nobody takes notice of it then? It is Leica’s logo after all. The red dot is smaller than the vendor logo on my Pentax DSLR, for example.
viramati Posted June 9, 2013 Share #73 Posted June 9, 2013 It is Leica’s logo after all. The red dot is smaller than the vendor logo on my Pentax DSLR, for example. Maybe but I have always covered up logos ever since I started out with an Olympus OM1. I just hate advertising products If I could get a plain disc the same size as the leica dot I would fit that
Rick Posted June 9, 2013 Share #74 Posted June 9, 2013 I could (*not) care less if, other people notice it. I just like black. Especially, on silver bodies. On black bodies I like heels and... oh, wait a minute, I'm off track again. *Ah, see... caught myself.

loudspeaker777 Posted June 20, 2013 Share #77 Posted June 20, 2013 NICE WORK! Could you post some pics without the case on
Peter H Posted June 20, 2013 Share #78 Posted June 20, 2013 Would look better (to me) if you didn't have a red softie and red stitching on a half case. It looks over-cooked and a little too fussy to me. (I hope you don't mind negative responses. No intention to be rude I promise!)
earleygallery Posted June 20, 2013 Share #79 Posted June 20, 2013 I was going to say the same, seems odd to remove the red dot but then stick another red dot on the camera! Surely with your softie and case the original Leica badge would look rather nice. I won't make any comment about the lens......
voightL Posted June 26, 2013 Share #80 Posted June 26, 2013 @ earleygallery, Peter H & loudspeaker777: Just for you guys; no red softie, no half-case.
