Isn't she beautiful?

howtododat:

remove the dot, stick it onto some wax paper, spray paint it twice with lustre black paint, let it dry, use a nail file to get the silver leica font back, stick it back onto the camera. 20 minutes work, drying time overnight.

the M paint can easily be removed with a toothpick. 20 seconds work.

how much did I drop my resale value? couldn't care less!

Does it void the warranty?:p

Warranty?? More like disowned & Leica's own 007 (licence to kill) being dispatched. It is company prerogative to showcase special editions & charge premium not some schmuck (no offence to OP) with a black paint spray can & toothpick.

I love it, massive improvement on the original.

Ummm! I sometimes wonder if these cosmetically modified cameras were ever intended to be used for real photography?

Well, on my M9 I replaced the red dot with a black one and picked out the white M9 lettering.

I prefer it's more subtle look.

I'd like a black dot on my silver M when it arrives (if it ever does)

and

I USE MY CAMERA FOR REAL PHOTOGRAPHY!

So there :D

What was the method of removing the red dot? What tool did you use?

I wouldn't like to bend it or otherwise damage the camera.

The recommended method is to press firmly on the dot (which is held in place with a mild clear gummy adhesive) with your finger and rotate the dot clockwise/anticlockwise back & forth until it loosens. Then it's just lifted off and refitted later or replaced.

.... and a bit of heat helps as well ..... just enough to soften the adhesive ... in fact its probably the heat generated from constant finger pressure and rotation that does it....
