Sapphire LCD sctratched, anyone else?

I noticed half an inch sctratch on my Monochrom LCD this afternoon. I am not sure how it was managed. The camera was never even close to any diamonds. The only possible cause is really the zip on my jacket... I thought the glass is harder than normal metal, so I didn't put any protector on. I really regret now. Although that doesn't do any damage to the photos, it made me unhappy. anyone with M9P or MM experienced this?

that sucks. I don't think a regular zipper is enough to scratch sapphire, unless there was real force applied during contact....I've hit my tag heuer with sapphire crystal into a brick wall by accident before with no scratches....sapphire is normally VERY scratch resistant. my M8.1's sapphire screen is perfect after much rough usage.

Have you tried wiping the scratch with a piece of damp (not wet) cloth?

Maybe Leica ran out of sapphire screens and substituted a plastic one when they made your camera?;) I second the comment to try wiping the scratch off.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a standard screen was fitted in error.....but it could be a mark rather than a scratch too.

Just to be sure you do have a sapphire screen, look along the lower edge in the centre. There is a tiny gem shape etched into the glass.

that's not always there. i've seen some with and some without.

Sapphire isn't scratch-free.

Sapphire is much less prone to scratches.

I have a watch that I have had for about ten years now and it has Sapphire glass. Yes it looks very fresh considering that I wear this watch 24/7 - no matter what I'm doing. But you can still see that the glass isn't new. It has a few tiny scratches. But if this was regular glass it would have been badly scratched and faded due to swirls from cloth, etc, etc.

this is why I popped a glass screen on my M9-P the day I got it. Also to protect against 'stabbing' injuries to the screen. The protector is only mounted at the edges and I think it will protect the screen from a possibly fatal stab attack sacrificing itself and distributing the force around the edge of the sapphire. I imagine (without knowing) that sapphire glass is actually more brittle than the plastic screens?

I don't even notice the screen and it only cost $12. It has already absorbed a few hits. If I ever decide to sell the camera I know the screen will be absolutely perfect under there.
