3) The M takes forever to wake up even from sleep mode. Waiting seconds before one can take a picture is ridiculous.

Try a different card, perhaps a 45mbps card. Also try formatting your cards with SDFormatter, a free program from the people responsible for the standard. I found, and other did as well, that this improved start up time, wake from sleep time and number of continuous shots before slowing.

6) Add "1080p30" and other 30 fps choices to "Video Resolution".

They would if they could (and they have tried), but 25 fps is the limit.

I did not read all posts in this thread, so maybe this will re-iterate what has been said before—if so, it just adds emphasis.

I absolutely definitely totally absolutely detest the red-on-black colour of the numbers when trying to adjust the ISO or the colour temperature settings. I am somewhat presbyopic (but use an eye-piece correction lens so no spectacles when shooting), and LCD screens are not really nice to read in broad daylight in the first place, too. So please, please, Please pretty PLEASE change the writing of the numbers to white-on-black (with a red underline or frame), and DO USE THE DAMNED FULL SCREEN AREA DAMMIT!!! Will you? Please!

Thanks for the hint. I am using a brand new Samsung 32 GB SDHC Class 10 (80 Mbps).

1) How many seconds do you have to wait after power on before you can take a photo ?

2) Which card brand and model do you recommend ?

I think you will find that Leica is currently only recommending San Disk. Even then I am getting occasional errors, like leaving an image number behind after deleting the image in camera. Since changing to Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 mbps from Sandisk Ultra 45 mbps, I have had fewer problems. Mind you I also went over to overwriting the card after each download with SD Formatter App and then re-formatting in the camera. I wish Leica had left the overwrite option in the SD menu.

This is all very like the early days of the M8, when most of us had card problems at one time or other. I am guessing it will improve when a new FW comes out, which BTW is very slow in appearing.

That may be true (sadly) for 1080p30, but 720p30 is less than half the computational power than 1080p30 and certainly less than 1080p25. I am curious about the technical excuse here.

Consumer cameras are already on 1080p60. Sometimes it is better to drop a feature altogether rather than provide such a poor implementation, thanks to the "new" 5 years old MAESTRO processor.

I really hope Leica is working on new hardware (Fujitsu has new stuff of course) and a much better firmware. Because a FF NEX will be out any moment, and no matter how crappy its firmware is, it will kick Leica out of the camera body game unless a properly engineered Really New M is ready and launched (or at least announced) at the same moment.

Well, I did never have any issue with the Samsung card. I just got the M, but I have been using the M9 with broken firmware for quite a while.

I never delete images using the camera. A 32 GB card helps here ;) Then I just remove the SD; put it in the USB reader; copy all the content on my hard drive; put the card back into the camera; and format it using the camera.

I started a thread to discuss different cards and performance in the M240, but I think with so few new cameras being delivered there has not been much activity there lately. While I am hesitant to use SanDisk cards in Leica, after all the problems using them in the M8 and M9, it does look as if it's a good performer in the M240. Just don't get a knockoff.

Startup times and wake times have been reported from 5 to 6 seconds to almost instantaneous, so much depends on the card.

...How many seconds do you have to wait after power on before you can take a photo ?...

Between 2 and 3 seconds on empty cards in both operations. Too long compared to my M8.2 (one second) but half pressing the shutter release as soon as you hold the camera may help a bit. Transcend 16GB class 10 (no ultra high speed) formatted through SDFormatter.

Same with Sandisk 16GB Extreme class 10 and Mustang 16GB class 10 formatted the same way.

I believe Leica has made the exposure compensation adjustment (hold front button down while at the same time turning thumb wheel) difficult to accidentally activate, but I wish this was an option. It's a stiff button, and not easy to adjust. Considering that the thumbwheel has no function without a button press (MENU, SET, FOCUS PEAKING HOLD, FOCUS PEAKING BRIEF PRESS) I think it could be better used for normal shooting.

What I would like is a menu option for:

Thumbwheel Normal State: Exp. Comp / ISO Adjust / None

One day owning it, and the contortionist method of setting exposure compensation is my first gripe! Stephen has it exactly right.

Agreed. Some users may be worried about accidentally turning the wheel while carrying the camera. This may be fixed by requiring the shutter button to be half pressed while turning the wheel. It is as simple as that.

File and folder numbering as a global setting

At present you have to set it for each profile.

Default profile to be DNG and ISO 200 .... or relegated to a menu setting like the M9 'snapshot' ..... if you accidentally end up in the default you are rather bizarrely in JPG and iso 800.....

<snip>

If there is to be an ISO button it should bring up a pick list as on the M9, otherwise it is completely redundant....

I agree with the above. In particular, it seems crazy to have the default profile set for JPEG capture only!
