Leica UVA/IR Filters at B&H Photo

I may have got this wrong but don't you think it would be more prudent for Leica to supply these filters to their loyal customers first before they source the retail outlets?

I am waiting for these two sizes and others must be as well, do't you feel a little peeved that you are still waiting and yet Leica is supplying their dealers?

Well .... the dealers are paying up front for the filters, loyal customers are waiting for their free filters. ;)

I have to admit I've given up waiting for the Leica brand 60mm and have ordered B+W equivalents. They're a must have for a job end May, too risky to wait. :(

I just ordered 2 B+W UV/IRs from Popflash this morning and have already received a 60 B+W from Adorama yesterday. The ones I am waiting on from Leica aren't expected to ship until sometime next month according to an inquiry to Leica by someone on this forum. I have several lenses I can use them on anyway.

I think the hold up for those who haven't received their free filter is that if you ordered one that they don't have yet (such as 55 or 60's so it seems) your order gets held up.

I posed the question to Leica M8 support - why Leica dealers before the promised 'free' filters are delivered to M8 customers (I bought and paid for 2 M8). The first response I got back was essentially non-responsive. It simply said it would be awhile before I would recieve my filters as they are in short supply - indeed it could be months was the implication.

By the way I asked for 2 46mm and 2 39mm filters and the registration was completed in November and December respectively.

I am not a Leica syncophant in any way so I persisted mostly because I find their approach to the UV/IR filter distribution somewhat disengenious and they should be held accountable. Now I am told that I am asking the impossible - but they will let me know in the next couple of days if they can send out a partial filter order. (I could simply go buy the filters at POPFLASH and be done with it - and or send the bill to Leica AG.)

All I can add is Leica AG should consult Leica US on HOW to deal with customers and customer relations. Roger Horn and his team in the US have it figured-out. Just another poorly managed customer relationship situation. Mr. Stephen K. Lee and his team has not sofar impressed me (not that it matters).

Cheers. Terry.

I am glad someone else shares my frustration over the filter situation, I feel for you Terry and agree with your stance.

These filters may be free, but they are not some gratuitous freebie from Leica they are to make the camera work as it was promised, an essential add on to make the camera functio.

The filter size I ordered are the same as the ones on offer at B&H so delivery is not being held up because of an odd size filter.

I think it is sad that people are forced to buy filters they were promised from Leica because they cannot trust the efficiency of the company, this is bad.

Lastly, I hate to moan about Leica because the M8 is wonderful but the filter supply situation should not be tolerated.

This afternoon I noticed that B&H Photo is listing Leica IR filters on their website: E39 Black #13410 and E46 Black #13411 both in stock.

SEJ

Thanks for the news.

Just ordered a couple E39 and E46 for my Epson's.

Curious to see to which extent they respect colours.

This company has become a public relations textbook for how NOT to deal with customers. It seems when asked questions that expose vulnerabilities, they just ignore them or pretend there is a translation problem.

Sadly I have to agree.

I've sent emails to NJ regarding the 30 percent off coupon that i qualify for. These first 3 emails languished for several weeks only to eventually be referred to Germany.

I'm still waiting for a response from Germany now. My first email into the matter was 2 months ago.

Why does this feel like a war of attrition? Why am I buying new equipment??

I didn't get the extended Leica service plan specifically because of the current state of Leica's internal operations.

I think i can get more reliable service locally for now.

I do hope things regain a level normality soon and that we can learn to trust an otherwise wonderful company.

((PS If those filters were available at B&H , they sold out fast... I dont see em. ))

If I see a 55 and/or 60 mm Leica UV/IR listed "in stock" at B&H or anywhere else before I have mine, that will set me off like fireworks.

"I think i can get more reliable service locally so far."

That may be true for the lenses, however, the schematics and maintenance manuals for the M8 are guarded as trade secrets and will never willingly be released to independent repair facilities like DAG.

When Leica went digital... It buried it's self in paperwork ironically.

Its sorta like when you upgrade a car from bone stock to High Performance. You better remember to install the brakes to match the extra 200 horses you bolted on.
