funny enough, the camera stopped its funny behavior and now works as it is supposed to. no quirks. nothing. all i did was to remove any card and play around a little. it hasnt frozen once since 30 minutes now. so lets wait and see, if the problem has solved.

It sounds like a bad SD card so you should acquire another one and see if the quirks come back with the new card inserted; be sure to format the card in the D2.

well actually, nothing seems to be ok anymore. the problem comes and goes. i dug a bit deeper int zhe cupbpard and found a second 2gb-card and one of 1gb . the 1gb is made by sandisk and therfore very likely to be of perfect quality. all cards seem to fall into the behavior, i describe above: they work perfect for a while and suddenly the camera freezes without any reason.

i start to think, my problems might come from a bad battery instead of the memorycard. unfortunately only one of the remaining batteries gives enough power to get my d2 started at all, so i cannot switch.

any ideas?

Electrical contacts can oxidise over time, adding resistance and reducing power. You  can only  clean the battery and its compartment contacts, but that might help. .

nah. cleaned everything with isoprop as good as possible. all seems shiny and clean. but still the camera keeps freezing.

i might have to face it: the time of my d2 has run out. either the battery or the mainboard have lost their will to live.

Not disregarding arno_nyhm's problem* but to get back to the purpose of this venerable thread let's get back to some pictures:

*Perhaps you could start a separate thread in this sub-forum so more people will see it rather than the problem being buried far down in a picture thread.

i just happened to find this thread yesterday "by accident" and i got thrilled by all those nice pictures. and then -later in bed while halfway asleep- it came to me, that there used to be a digilux 2 somewhere in the basement, where parts of my fathers cameracollection have found their parkingposition. i managed to get that thought aside and find some sleep. but today while sitting in the boring office, that thought came back to me and wouldnt leave me alone. so, later at five in the afternoon i found myself exploring the basement for a small silver box with a digilux 2 in it- and found it.

but as i remembered, the camera had problems with starting up. it would only start every second time i tried it. but soon i found, that one of the batteries was fully dead and the other was only good for driving the old digilux2 for not more than a few seconds. but the third one seemed to be full and working.

yet the camera kept freezing every few attempts of taking a picture.

after checking on everything visible on the outside of the camera, i found the sd-card in the slot was a 2GB of size.

i suppose, that this size of sd-cards wasnt really available, when the digilux2 was launched. on a short dive into the cupboard next to kitchendoor, i found a 256MB sd-card and replaced the storageunit.

that did a good change. the camera doesnt freeze that frequent any more.

a few attempts later it froze anyway, when i tried to fire the flash. so i let it sit for a couple of minutes with the battery installed. et voilà: the camera now fires the shutter with or without flash, it even replays the shots already made.

all i need to do now, is take her for a walk.

if only...

if only it wasnt for the storagecapacity. only 22 rawpics do match onto the 256mb card. that is quite a lot compared to my trustworthy rolleiflex, who only gives 12 exposures to a filmroll. but it is rather a few, given the fact, that we speak digital photography here with a -lets call it basic- display for checking pictures.

and my cupboard unfortunately only held one card of that size.

so here's my question: what size of sd-card do you use with the digilux 2? what is the biggest size, the digilux takes? maybe with this information, i can find a card of proper size somewhere.

No raw, jpg is superb

I've been digging into the archive and found a LOT of photos I did for different magazine and newspaper projects back then. I republished this one, a 20-page reportage from Aarhus University where all photos but one was made with the Digilux 2.

I guess there is a reason this thread on the forum now as over half a million views. Old love never rusts 🙂

I remember seeing some of the photos you took professionally with the D2 at the time, Thorsten, and they helped to convince me to get a D2, so thank you.
