Very nice images. Northern Italy is a very interesting place, I've been on holiday there, for the last two years. Did I recognise Bologna and the Dolomites ?

Yess, bologna, dolomites, Venice and Choggia/Sottomarina.

I left away the passing of the "splugenpass" where we came thru with our motorhome, 261 cm high and 6.30 long, the tunnels indicated maximum length 5 m and height 230 cm with oval shape, so had to drive slowly and carefully in the middle of the road and praying...

Northern Italy is very industrial, extremely active and dynamic, and very rich, hard to believe the antipropagandistic anti europe catastrophic financial information. The do very well, and they are very serious workers.

For holydays, it is wonderful.

And the food ! I had the most beautiful lasagne I have ever tasted in Bologna.

I had a similar experience to you in the Pyrenees. I ended up having to walk out in front of the car (a Peugot 204) while my girlfriend drove at walking pace, so many potholes. Very relieved to get off that Pass.

Digilux 2 goes trackside! I still enjoy doing quick walk-arounds with my Digilux 2. I'm still not as quick with the M8.2 and its manual focus.

John, just fabulous shots! Hard to beat the Digilux 2 . You rejuvenated my interest in this fantastic camera. I was planning on taking only my M9 to Berlin in late Sept. , but after seeing your shots, I'll have to taken along the Digilux 2 as a second camera.

Thanks for sharing

Such nice images from such different worlds; both the track and the flowers..

May i ask, John and Guytou: what are your in camera setting for such nice images?

Thank you Misiekbunnik !

Nothing particular : images RAW converted in JPEG in Lightroom 3 with very light sharpness, but without modification.

I shoot exclusively JPEG when using the Digilux 2. They are the finest JPEGs of any camera I've ever owned. Period. The EXIF data is always complete in images I've post.

Adjustments typically involve sharpening and a little bump in the contrast or brightness/darkness to taste. I work solely in Aperture.

To anyone in the San Francisco area, please make a note; I'll be presenting at Apple in San Francisco September 19th, 2011 at 6:30PM - There will be a photo presentation, discussion and brief explanation on how I use Apple's Aperture and other tools in my workflow.

Thank you both!

I also use my D2 in jpeg mode only because as John says, the files are very good straight from the camera. I do sometimes struggle to set in camera contrast or sharpness a bit higher, but in the end keep everything at 'normal'....

I am in europe so will not be attending your workshop, John, but a little post on your aperture flow maybe in a blogpost, please?

best, ronald

It's a three part article beginning here:

Post Shoot Workflow ~ Part One of a Three Part

It was originally written for Aperture 2.x but relevant none-the-less.

Here's a link for a video tutorial applying simple "adjustments" in Aperture.

JUST IMAGINE IF A 10 MEGAPIXEL EVOLUTION OF THE D2 OR 15 MEGAPIXEL EVER MATERIALIZED? Even with the shutter lag it would still be a winner!!! I love this camera but it grieves me that it wasn't developed further by Leica. A truly missed opportunity to kick some ass!

Back to the original question. I'll say it again. YES, the D2 has a distinctive look! (The shot below is a Dad with a very spirited daughter).

Cheers!

hi guys, just joined the forum & been through this whole thread. wow some great images :D

i just got myself a D2 after a couple of years of toying with the idea!

i was a bit of a late starter with digital as my first experiences were awful & it was only after borrowing a friends LC1 for 3 trips abroad in 2008 that i finally felt the need to buy another camera.

i basically blundered around just snapping away in auto but was amazed by how many of the images were keepers & loved the look of them :D

i started looking into what was available & bought an LX3, lovely capable little camera but i quickly found the limits of the small sensor (well you try taking pics of everything when you start out ) so bought a Nikon D200, loved that. also got hold of another Nikon, a D2Xs (awesome btw) but still always wanted either an LC1 or a D2.

after an impulse bit of ebaying i now have a really nice clean D2 & i'm looking forward to getting out & about with it :D

here's just one of the "snaps" i took with the LC1 in 2008 - the onroad RC track in Oslo
