Do you know when did the production start?

...I thought there were 50 a day in Germany and 50 a day in Portugal, at least I remember I read it so somewhere.

Actually they are mostly produced in Portugal and shipped to Germany for finishing, so those two fifties are the same cameras.

The sales figures, when last published, showed comparable percentages for Germany and the Americas, more for the rest of Europe and Eastern Asia, so I can imagine Leica spreading them out.

2011-2012:

Deutschland 32.389 29.403

Europa (ohne Deutschland) 77.457 66.979

Asien und Australien 89.330 73.070

NAFTA 41.518 34.937

Sonstige 3.062 4.185

Materialverkäufe an Leica Portugal 3.453 3.431

Gesamt 247.209 212.005

Actually not. It seems people in some small area of Finland who were 6th on the list, got their Monochrome whereas the US received nil. I'm talking people #1 on the list all over here.

Yes, and I also still read comments from people on a waiting list for the Monochrom in the USA. Here in the UK (and I suspect elsewhere in Europe), dealers cannot give the camera away! I'm exaggerating but the Monochrom is widely available from stock and at least two dealers have been recently selling the camera at a 5% discount (from RRP). Leica Mayfair had a mint ex-demo for sale at a 10% discount that wasn't snapped up (and might still be available for all I know?).

Is that the way it works? U.S. dealers order from Leica USA, and Leica USA orders from Solms?

That's the way it works for just about any foreign manufacturer that has a local entity handling the sales in the country.

Interesting, and supports the information William Palank posted some time ago -- time has stopped moving, as we await the first report that one has been shipped... Where was I? -- that Leica Stores/in-store boutiques will be taken care of first. Presumably Leica USA has an incentive to make those channels work best/first. I write this speculatively, but it makes sense.

I'm looking to purchase in Europe where it's cheaper for us (so strange!).

Charles, Robert White and Red Dot (both forum sponsors) are two dealers discounting the Monochrom and are selling it for GBP 4845 (ex. VAT). With the recent fall in sterling against the dollar that may be an attractive price. That said, RW seem to have gone out of stock ("expecting more soon").:D

The ex-demo isn't on Mayfair's site fyi.

Stock control is not their strong point..... you will need to phone .... and on a regular basis to get things.

I have been in the shop and actually had my credit card debited before they discovered the M9P 'in stock and available' was actually sold.....

Anyone buying from the States, should consider that price are lower on the Continent than in Britain. At today's exchange rate the GBP4845,, ex-VAT price stated by wattsy is US$7,322. In France, there are some M-Monochromes available at €6,400 which are €5,146 ex-VAT, of US$6,721, or US$601 less than the UK price stated above.
