Advertisement Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi Ralf, Take a look here Fujifilm X20. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tonki-M Posted February 7, 2013 Share #22 Posted February 7, 2013 You have just ordered one, you have not "pre-ordered" there is no such verb, pre-order has no meaning. pre-order, to my understanding, is a noun meaning you can order before it is available. pre-order means you have the ability to 'order' beforehand. but pre-order cannot be used as a verb, because you can't do the act of 'pre-order' because then you havent done anything. pre-order (verb) is an oxymoron
philipus Posted February 7, 2013 Author Share #23 Posted February 7, 2013 I'm wondering if we aren't veering ever so slightly off topic. I'm not sure, though.
mjh Posted February 7, 2013 Share #24 Posted February 7, 2013 pre-order cannot be used as a verb But it is – try googling “to pre-order”. The language police won’t make it go away. And it isn’t that difficult to understand what it means – basically the same as "to order", except that the item ordered isn’t available yet. That is, it establishes a contract between you and the dealer, but the dealer obviously isn’t required to fulfill the order before the item pre-ordered becomes available. Paul Reading Posted February 8, 2013 Share #25 Posted February 8, 2013 Pre-order makes no sense, he has ordered an X20, it is that simple. The fact that a lot of people or companies use it doesn't make it right, it is just annoying. It is like saying I am going to do something on a daily basis, when in fact they mean they are going to do something daily.
lct Posted February 8, 2013 Share #26 Posted February 8, 2013 Pre-orders are not commitments to purchase in some trades and/or legislations.
MPJMP Posted March 9, 2013 Share #27 Posted March 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone know when these are scheduled to ship? B&H originally stated Feb 28th, which has come and gone. No new ship date posted as of yet.
rjans Posted March 14, 2013 Share #28 Posted March 14, 2013 The black one seems to be available at Amazon Germany. The silver not yet available there. On Amazon UK it seems the silver version disappeared and only the black version is available. Best

philipus Posted March 24, 2013 Author Share #30 Posted March 24, 2013 Here's a review I found. At least there's a filter thread so one can use an ND filter. Fujifilm X20 review - Pocket-lint
MPJMP Posted March 27, 2013 Share #31 Posted March 27, 2013 After a lot more careful thought, I cancelled my "pre-order" for the X20 and instead "pre-ordered" the X100S. While the X20 promises to be a lot more versatile than the X100S, the on-line sample images from the X100S just spoke to me more than those from the X20. Reminded me a lot of my film Leica shots. The X100S is just starting to hit stores in the US market, so I'll have to wait and see if I get one from the first batch or will have to wait a bit longer. viramati Posted April 5, 2013 Share #32 Posted April 5, 2013 traded in my X100 yesterday for the X20. As I am waiting for the new M I reckoned I wouldn't really need the X100 anymore and wanted a more versatile P&S. Initial reaction is that the X20 is pretty good from a functional POV but strangely the out-of-camera jpegs are truly awful at anything over iso 400 and unusable at iso1600. This seems strange considering that RAW files are really very good even up to iso 3200 and can be worked on quite nicely in L4.4. Am considering whether to return the camera but on the other hand I would think that the jpeg problem could be sorted in a firmware update seeing that the RAW files are ok, Strange
Stealth3kpl Posted April 5, 2013 Share #33 Posted April 5, 2013 It's short for "pre-availability order" which come to think about it doesn't sound right either. Pete
viramati Posted July 13, 2013 Share #34 Posted July 13, 2013 I have now had the M for a couple of months and it is a great camera but I just keep reaching for the X20. for street work it is hard to beat

StS Posted July 13, 2013 Share #36 Posted July 13, 2013 (...)Edit #2: I forgot to mention that although not pocketable, mine goes everywhere in a Leica 14522 leather case as made for the M6 and collapsible Elmar 50mm 2.8. (...) ... which pretty well explains, why I started using the M8 more frequently again. Since years, I'm looking for a digital successor of the Olympus XA. I considered the X20 and X100, which are lovely cameras but don't really give me a size advantage over the M8. If I need to bring a bag, I can bring an M. viramati Posted July 13, 2013 Share #37 Posted July 13, 2013 Thanks for the update, David. Was the jpeg problem you described earlier fixed by a firmware update? Cheers Philip Not that I know of but I only shoot RAW in any case. files are really surprisingly good for the sensor size and with a few tweaks and presets in Lr great results can be achieved. Anyway it is the speed of use that I really like and makes it stand apart some X20 shots here http://www.flickr.com/photos/viramati/sets/72157633287333435/
fotografr Posted August 29, 2013 Share #38 Posted August 29, 2013 I got the X10 as soon as it came out, then sold it and bought the X20 as soon as it became available. The camera goes everywhere with me and has great image quality, along with a very solid build. I can't tell you how many times I've wondered why Leica couldn't have made a camera like this with their glass on the front. By the way, Adobe offers a free DNG converter which works with the RAW Fuji files. Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 : Thank You It's not anywhere near the quality of a full frame dSLR, but its not bad for a little p&s. ISO 400 and below images are stunning.

StS Posted September 1, 2013 Share #40 Posted September 1, 2013 Sometimes, I like to contradict myself. I just passed a store and was stopped by a large poster showing a special offer for the X20. So I went in, tried it and bought it on the spot. I never tried a point and shoot before, which feels so close to a real camera. The mechanical zoom operation is simply brilliant. Another point, where online stores can't beat the real world - I had read the reviews about the X20 months ago, but to get the idea of this camera, one needs to use it. The clerks appeared to be slightly disappointed, that they didn't have to convice me (they told me, that they both have an X20 as their private cameras), but I already knew all the facts... Concerning the size - it can ride in a side pocket of my messenger bag. If I bring an M, the bag is almost full when I add a computer and the rainclothes (I'm cycling to work).
