However, I'm looking for something wider to force myself to go closer when I shoot street. What affordable lenses would you recommend for the 28/35mm field of view? I don't need a fast lens for the type of shots I'm going for. My concern is that it should bring up the right frame lines. The 24mm framelines are difficult to view for some spectacles wearers so in this case a 28mm lens would be what you look for. A rather cheap and very good one is the CV 28/3.5 but it is now discontinued. The CV 25/4 will bring up 24mm framelines but is not as good as the CV 21/4. The Leica 28/2.8 asph and 24/3.8 asph are superb on the M8 but are more expensive naturally. Edit: Agree with Erik about the CV 21/4. I use it more often than my otherwise excellent but bulkier Elmarit 21/2.8 asph. It is not as extremely expensive as other Leica lenses but has extremely high resolution. The field of view for the M8 is appoximately the same as for 32mm for a fullframe sensor. Yes, I prefer a smaller lens than a bigger albeit faster one. I'll have to shop around at the second hand stores to see what I can find. Btw, does the coding correct distortion? Or does it deal with only vignetting and colour cast? Which coding did you use for the CV 21/4? I think the 3.8/24 Elmar could fit your description. Ideally, I would want a "conventional" focal length so that should I have the luck to switch to a full frame rangefinder in the future, I would already be used to that focal length. The difference between 32 and 35 is not much... I wonder if I'll be able to easily adapt if I did switch. But that's all daydreaming at this point in time. I'll have to hunt around to see if I can get one of the Elmar to try. I'm not that familiar with the second hand market here in Singapore. I opted to get a brand new CV 35/1.4 when I got the M8. Never seen significant differences as far as distortion so i would say essentially vignetting and color cast. The codings i prefer for the CV 21/4 are # 51 and # 3 on my M8.2. It can be coded as an 28mmF2 Summicron and it brings up a nice clean frame line in the M8. I also use a Leica 24mm f3.8 asph and I'm very happy with it, on the M8 it's as wide as I feel I need to go out doors. Both are lovely lenses and the Leica is very well made. The Ultron is slightly greater than 37mm fov and the Leica 24mm is just under 32mm fov. I just treat them as the focal length indicated and adjust for the crop.
