blimey Posted December 31, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted December 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am trying to figure out whether the mark inside my lens is fungus or some kind of lens separation? Â The picture below - the blots or spots inside the element. Thanks in advance. Â
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Hi blimey, Take a look here fungus or lens separation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 31, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted December 31, 2012 It's the black paint that is bad. Will require a complete rebuild and cleaning if/when it gets worse
TomB_tx Posted December 31, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted December 31, 2012 Yes - the edges of the elements are painted flat black, and on a lot of old lenses the paint begins to lose adhesion to the glass and these "bubbles" look silver from the inside. If it isn't excessive I'd leave it alone. I have a 1954 Zunow 50 f1.1 out for rebuilding due to a number of issues, including the paint work as it was more bubble than black - and it is indeed expensive! blimey Posted December 31, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted December 31, 2012 It is a Summicron v4 Pre-asph so I guess this old lens will exhibit paint chipping. Â Thanks and off to go get a refund.
