Using M9, thinking of 21 3.4 or 18 3.8 ASPH.

Are these, when using correction in camera, affected by the red edge?

Or, is there anything wider than 24 that is not affected by the red edge and has low distortion?

What about the older 2.8?

Thanks

G

PS I have CV 12 and 15, great stuff, but very much affected by the red edge.

I recently bought a new 21mm f3.4 Super Elmar and have used it extensively on my M9P, and can say with total confidence that it beats all the wide & ultra-wide angle M lenses I have owned and used previously, including the wide-angle lens I thought to be the best of the lot up to this point, the 24mm F2.8 Asph. Elmarit-M. I find the new 21mm Super Elmar to be:

The sharpest Leica M lens I've ever used

Has no visible distortion

Edges are as sharp as the center at all apertures

Superlative color rendition

No detectable CA

No evidence whatsoever of the issue you mention

And finally, one of the most pleasantly surprising aspects of all: when rationally commparing the qualities and the total IQ of this jewel to other M series WAs & ultra wides and offerings from other makers, the price is really quite reasonable, if not a downright bargain.

Don't mean to get maudlin over an inanimate object, but what I find especially remarkable about this lens is the psychological confidence this lens imparts on your choice of objective and the way it makes you want to put it on the camera and just shoot with it, since it inspires such a high degree of faith that it will capture the shot exactly as pre-visualized that it seems you just can't fail.
