Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking for a more usable lens hood for my Voigtlander 21mm f/4 for use on an M8 The Original is not worth much for shade or for preventing fingerprints etc. on the UVIR filter... I am hoping.... Leica hood 12585 (35-50) will fit, don't mind if I have to cut a little length... Could anyone check for me if Leica hood 12585 (35-50) fits 21mm 4.0 or, if 12585 has the same interface as 12575, ie. does it fit 90 and 135 4.0 Thanks! Advertisement Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Hi Erik Gunst Lund, Take a look here Lens hood for Voigtlander 21mm f/4 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 11, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2012 I'll check tomorrow when i get back home. My favorite is the rubber hood 12518 with hood cap 14191. Work fine on the M8 with no vignetting and minimum blocking of the viewfinder. Welcome, dear visitor! WilhelmR Posted December 11, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2012 And I am looking for a hood for the same lens but on a M9. It often happens, that I have a finger in the right bottom corner of the picture. A hood that is fine for 35mm will vignette on this lens.
TomB_tx Posted December 12, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2012 On the M9 I like the optional VC rectangular LH-1 lens hood: Welcome, dear visitor! Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 12, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted December 12, 2012 ...A hood that is fine for 35mm will vignette on this lens. I did state that I'm willing to cut it down... and on an M8 1.3 crop... also there is a whole lot more to if a lens hood vignettes than the focal length printed on the hood... Size of front elements for instance
gyoung Posted December 12, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 12, 2012 I have been trying to find a hood cap for the Voigtlander lh-1 hood, any bright ideas? All the rectangular tin lids I have found are the wrong size! Gerry
lct Posted December 12, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just tried 12585 and 12585H hoods on the CV 21/4. Both fit perfectly and don't seem to add vignetting on my M8.2. http://tinyurl.com/aooavk6 http://tinyurl.com/anzldkk Welcome, dear visitor! Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 12, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted December 12, 2012 Just tried 12585 and 12585H hoods on the CV 21/4. Both fit perfectly and don't seem to add vignetting on my M8.2 Thanks! Very nice with the images also
scsambrook Posted December 12, 2012 Share #9 Posted December 12, 2012 I've tried mine on the 21/4 on the M8 and I have to say that it certainly does shade the corners in some circumstances. It's not visible on all subjects, but it shows in skies and subjects with areas of light, plain tones. And it's rather worse at smaller apertures, indicating that it's indded the hood that's responsible.
Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 12, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted December 12, 2012 Is your lens 6bit coded? Mine is as 21mm 3.4 Pls. Post the image I'll check when I get the 12585 hood. It's a quick fix with a Dremel...
scsambrook Posted December 13, 2012 Share #11 Posted December 13, 2012 Erik - no it's not coded and it doesn't show the same shading without the 12585. I think the Chinese screw hoods that mimic the 12585 are a little shallower and probably won't cause any problems. And they're very cheap !
lct Posted December 13, 2012 Share #12 Posted December 13, 2012 The CV 21/4 vignettes a lot w/o coding. I would be surprised that a 12585 hood can make any difference then, but i may be wrong. The Heavystar 39mm vented hood may be a good idea for those who like screw-in metal hoods, provided they don't use IR-cut or other filters though. Otherwise, the hood must be screwed onto the filter and vignetting is unacceptable then.
Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 14, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted December 14, 2012 The images from the 21mm 4 with and without UVIR filter and coding are worlds apart on M8... And yes the 39mm heavystar is too long for this lens with filter.
lct Posted December 14, 2012 Share #14 Posted December 14, 2012 No problem with the plain "W" Heavystar though. Doesn't cause more vignetting than the 12585 with IR-cut filter on and blocks very little the 28mm frame of the viewfinder. Welcome, dear visitor! Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 20, 2012 Author Share #18 Posted December 20, 2012 I got a 12585H and it does vignette a tiny bit in the extreme corners of the 21mm f/4 on M8, so it will need a bit of trimming.
lct Posted December 20, 2012 Share #19 Posted December 20, 2012 At which aperture do you see the fall-off if i may ask?
Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 20, 2012 Author Share #20 Posted December 20, 2012 At 2-4m distance it's quite obvious at all apertures. Up close it's not visible at f/
