Niko Posted December 7, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone tried to use 46mm filters on 75mm Summicron with a step-down ring? I´m interested in the lens, but would not like to get yet another sized set of filters. I have 46mm and 58mm, but would like to use 46 so the hood wouldn´t be blocked... Advertisement Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Hi Niko, Take a look here 46mm filters useable on 75mm Summicron ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2012 The first word that springs to mind here is vignetting.
lct Posted December 7, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2012 46mm instead of 49mm? Never tried this but it would cause vignetting i'm afraid.
01af Posted December 7, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 7, 2012 E46 filters on a 49–>46 mm step-down ring? Bad idea. Either get a 49–>58 mm step-up ring plus an extra E58 hood, or use the lens with no filters, or sell the Apo-Summicron and get the Summarit-M 75 mm lens instead. pgk Posted December 7, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 7, 2012 I´m interested in the lens, but would not like to get yet another sized set of filters. Niko Just how many filters do you use with your lenses? In my case, I have E46 UVa, ND and Pola for all my E46 fitting lenses. Adding an E49 UVa (the Pola has both E46 and E49 rings) is really not a big deal, which simply leaves the ND for which, in your position I'd use an E55 to E49 adapter and use the existing E55 filters. Unless you have numerous other filters that you constantly want to change then I don't see this being a huge problem myself.
Niko Posted December 7, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted December 7, 2012 Seems like an idea that won't work... It of course isn't a deal breaker, but would have been nice. I'll try it myself before buying more filters!
Bill W Posted December 11, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) if your dealer has the step down ring, he might let you try it first. Who knows it might work but probably not. At least if you can try it, you are not out the cost for the ring.
