chris_tribble Posted November 10, 2012 Author Share #161  Posted November 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been using the VF-2 with the S/H Olympus EP-2 I bought, which arrived today . I am afraid it is not a wonderful device, particularly for spectacle wearers. The screen seems quite small and it is actually much easier to manual focus with the back LCD screen than the VF-2 - hmmmmm. I had hoped that the screen would fill a larger proportion of your visual field.  Wilson  I had a look through one attached to a friend's EP-3 and I was quite pleased with it... I used the diopter (as I do on the M9) and had enough room ... I can see how it would be a problem with specs though...

wlaidlaw Posted November 10, 2012 Share #162 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Nor for the Monochrom - but they claim to be working on it... Â Jaap, Â I don't know if Phase One have patched up their spat with Leica. I know at one time they were trying to borrow an M9 to make their profile for that. jaapv Posted November 10, 2012 Share #163 Â Posted November 10, 2012 I was quoting from a mail I got a few days ago. Anyway, they did an automatic update of my C1 6.x and it somehow installed C1 7.0. That was not a free upgrade, it turns out.

If we don't pay up for the upgrade within 60 days, our C1 dies. Â The annoying thing that a few months after paying for an upgrade, Phase One start to offer the whole program at less than the price of an upgrade. This is a good way to alienate loyal customers. My personal view is that some account should be taken of and credit given to customers who have upgraded multiple times. I have been using C1 since version 2. melissah Posted November 10, 2012 Share #165 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Why are you hating Lightroom? Using vs 4.1 or older? I ask because I love LR4. I know there were initial problems, as this is a complete redo over vs 3. Otoh I've never used capture one.
jaapv Posted November 10, 2012 Share #166 Â Posted November 10, 2012 I avoid using LR whenever I can....For me, the user interface does not work at all.

jaapv Posted November 10, 2012 Share #169 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Adobe CS6.
k-hawinkler Posted November 10, 2012 Share #170 Â Posted November 10, 2012 Adobe CS6. Â Well, I have been a long-time PS CS, now CS6 user, never really got along with LR either. However, I must say that C1P6 or C1P7 produces off the bat better colors than CS6. One thing, I don't like at all about C1P7, is that apparently one now has to import images into a library first. I hope I am mistaken. Â For my D800E Capture NX 2 from Nikon gives better results than PS CS6. For example, CNX2 deals with the occasional moires more effectively. Â So, I guess I am stuck with several packages, none being optimal for my preferences.

I know there were initial problems, as this is a complete redo over vs 3. Otoh I've never used capture one. Â I just can't get my head round the way the LR program is laid out and works. I have tried 2, 3 and now 4. I have bought and read the books, watched the CD tutorials and I still dislike it. I actually prefer Aperture but its development engine, which was never cutting edge, is now way behind the curve. C1 and PS CS6 just seem to work the way my brain does and are intuitive for me. Other than the missing MM and M-240 profiles, C1 does everything I need so why fight to work with LR. Â Wilson

chris_tribble Posted November 11, 2012 Author Share #173 Â Posted November 11, 2012 This strand is a bit off topic perhaps, but hey! Maybe it's like the way the world is divided between those who prefer window seats and those who prefer aisle (& EVERYone hates the middle...) - I could never get C1 and LR felt right from day one. Sorry that your preferred software doesn't get updated and has a bad marketing strategy - LR has got cheaper and better as time has gone by - and as a DAM system I couldn't do without it. viramati Posted November 11, 2012 Share #175 Â Posted November 11, 2012 I think it's partly down what you start with. I started with Lr1 and have to see that at the time it was only programme that made sense having worked in the darkroom and come from the film age. Version 4 has moved away from those routes but I find it an incredibly powerful piece of software> also the fact that you can organise, develop, create slideshows and web pages all in the same programme is not to be sniffed at
jaapv Posted November 11, 2012 Share #176 Â Posted November 11, 2012 Bridge and CS6 do the same for me, and much more. I find the interface far more intuitive than LR. As Chris said, it is just what works best for each individual user.
wattsy Posted November 11, 2012 Share #177 Â Posted November 11, 2012 Bridge and CS6 do the same for me, and much more. I find the interface far more intuitive than LR. Â Yes, that's how I do all my photo editing. I used to favour C1 (and I suspect it still does the best conversions) but I have found the various versions of ACR since CS4 perfectly acceptable and now do everything in Bridge and PS CS6. I have LR both as both part of a creative cloud subscription and as a 'freebie' with my M cameras and have tried using it but don't find any benefit in doing so. I find this hugely useful (as well as the "print to JPEG" option which allows you to prepare an image with a specific color profile for print output with text, borders etc all included.) jonoslack Posted November 11, 2012 Share #179  Posted November 11, 2012 CS6, Lightroom, Capture 1v6, v7 - I have licenses for all except Capture v7  I just don't understand you lot - nobody even MENTIONS Aperture - Iove it - I was forced to use LR for 6 months exclusively when I was testing the MM, I assumed I'd get to like it better - but no, back to Aperture at the first possible opportunity.  Printing is better organisation is better localised adjustments are better cloning and repairing is a million miles better interface is better  Only thing it's not so good at is noise control (but then I think that's because it doesn't apply sneaky noise reduction). Oh yes, and supporting new cameras (soo sloooow).  all the best
andybarton Posted November 11, 2012 Share #180 Â Posted November 11, 2012 I agree Jono. I run both LR4 and Aperture 3, and it's always Aperture that I turn to first.
