stump4545 Posted October 11, 2012 Share #1 Β Posted October 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) when light is plentiful, to obtain the sharpest portrait image when the subject is centered in the frame, does shooting at 5.6 yield any benefit then shooting at 1.4 with m lenses? Β i am used to stopping down 2-3 stops to gain peak lens performance but wasnt sure if that still holds true with modern m lens like the 50mm asph lux. giordano Posted October 11, 2012 Share #2 Β Posted October 11, 2012 Yes. And not only because of the increased depth of field.
earleygallery Posted October 11, 2012 Share #3 Β Posted October 11, 2012 I like to think outside the box and suggest radical solutions...... you could try taking a portrait of someone at 1.4 and then at 5.6 and make your own mind up!
lct Posted October 11, 2012 Share #4 Β Posted October 11, 2012 The Summilux 50/1.4 asph is probably the sharpest 50 at f/1.4 but it is even sharper at f/5.6. See the MTF charts page 3 of the technical data below.
Tonki-M Posted October 12, 2012 Share #5 Β Posted October 12, 2012 most Leica lens will have peak performance at around f4-5.6, but the difference is hardly there since it's a Leica glass. on other brand, u may see dramatic increased performance, but not Leica's. what should concern you though is the mentioned depth of field. it all depends on what kind of portrait you do
