€5000 with kit lens

1.2 crop

M lens via adaptor.

V interesting.

Available March

Some real competition?

Very ugly too ... obvious that it was not designed in Germany or Japan ... those two dials/knobs on the top are out of step with the rest of the camera.

It indeed shuns traditional styling, but it also seems to have some great features (3" OLED screen, zero shutter lag), and might feel very ergonomic in the hand. Very interesting new direction for Hasselblad. Why should Leica be the only one playing in the upscale mirror-less market? ;)

"The Lunar is a celebration of the passion that the company's founder Victor Hasselblad had for photography"... then why use 'luxury Italian design'?

This is anathema to the man who made the 500C a reality- an icon of Swedish design and a minimalist masterwork.

More like a complete denigration of his life's work...

don't get me wrong I Like Italian design: especially of the 1950's - for my vintage coffee machines- but this looks like a feeble post-modern reverberation of a faded roy rogers sci-fi fantasy camera/ray gun for the rich and tasteless. The design philosophy appears to have been guided by a desire to cash in on Hasselblad's space and Luna associations rather than actual 'photographic' considerations...

Design guided by marketing... Shocking styling.

who knows- perhaps I am a reactionary - afraid of the future- maybe the 'Lunar' will be an ergonomic and functional revolution - but early impressions are that it is an aesthetic disaster and desecration of the august Hasselblad design heritage. ... I say (as first impression): it reeks of crass 'pimpery'...

It has an ostentatious look that I cannot stand. Pretty for a showcase, maybe, but I'd not be seen with it in public. I might have my mistress carry it, however.

Seriously, it is over-the-top appearance driven.

Fair enough but you couldn't get near their stand.

They had a couple of working examples and a lot of wooden mock ups

They are going to sell a lot of these to people who have an open mind. Loads of a-l-c type options too.

"And for the first time ever we are using carbon fiber, titanium, wood, leather and precious metals - including gold."

Well it is desperate times for Hasselblad. I guess they hope their name can add a lot of money to turn a Nex camera into a status object.

Hasselblads were originally designed and used as tools for serious photographers. But the MF market is surely in decline and they have to come up with something for their future.

The company has new owners since June so who knows what they have in mind for the brand?

I've to apologise not being able to give You five thanks for this statement!

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS, THANKS, THANKS

Hasselblad need to concentrate on the V series to get back those tens of thousands of user it pushed to one side.

Porsche didn't do that with its cars, and Leica didn't with its core cameras.

Wake up Hasselblad !

They could make a start with a FF digi back, and a very wide lens c24mm.

What they've introduced today looks like it was borrowed from Thunderbirds!

In the movie "2001 A Space Odyssey" astronauts on the moon can be seen using a Hasselblad inside a large underwater housing. But when men actually landed on the moon, there was no need for a camera housing.

I don't know why I wrote that but it got my mind off those prototype photos. They designed a new bling grip for a Nex 7 and want to charge nearly $4,000 more for that? My favorite quote from the comments, "Introducing The Hasselblad for Lunatics".
