stuny Posted September 15, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted September 15, 2012 David, Tim, Paul, Lawrence, Thomas, Steve, John, DL & Henry - Thank you for your comments, observations and senses of humor. I believe there is an interesting arc to these fashions which many women (mostly youger, who therefore are unfair to hookers) have adopted, starting with Madonna, but really coming into its own as a fashion standard with Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw. heckel Posted September 15, 2012 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2012 Stuart, interesting title - but I guess some people are more conservative than others. But are you really likening her to a hooker? She could easily be my daughter. I like your photographs but I won't be buying your book on gender politics... bill Posted September 15, 2012 Share #14 Posted September 15, 2012 I would be deeply unhappy if I was that girl, or her parents, if I were to stumble across this thread. It verges on the libellous if not voyeuristic. I am deeply uncomfortable with the original posting and with some of the subsequent comments. As a father and stepfather of teenagers and early twenty year olds I find this particularly inappropriate. Bill Sent from another Galaxy
Lax Jought Posted September 15, 2012 Share #15 Posted September 15, 2012 The bikini has made it acceptable to wear a lot less in public for the past 60 years, has it not? I kind of understand where Stuart is coming from, actually I understand where both sides of this debate is coming from. But I don't entirely take sides with either side too. There are arguments that go both ways.

As a father and stepfather of teenagers and early twenty year olds I find this particularly inappropriate...I wouldn't worry about it, just a bunch of OFs being ridiculous and an OP, who's trying to attract hits to a picture that is — how should I say it? — eminently quelconque. My only reaction is of distaste for photographers who look down on their subjects in their comments. The worst I've seen here was a Thai photographer who was showing off an Alpa, and his wife's equally expensive camera and captioned a picture of poor people Some Lowlife — and it wasn't a language problem; but I assume you may know something about Thailand's ongoing political crisis, which that attitude reflects. —Mitch/Bangkok Bangkok Hysteria (download link for book project)
Avatar Posted September 16, 2012 Share #18 Posted September 16, 2012 Hi Stuart, I saw the title and looked at the picture and didn't connect the two even remotely...I guess living on Park Avenue South, I see girls/women dressed much more revealing than that just about all day long...That girls attire wouldn't have hardly registered as anything much out of the ordinary to me.. Where've you been?
stuny Posted September 16, 2012 Author Share #19 Posted September 16, 2012 Thank you all for further comments. Yes, I'm definitely in the Old Fart school, and often give my age in Celsius so that it is a far lower number. Sorry about the "unfair to hookers" seemingly aimed at this young woman. I meant it as a general comment that so many young women dress so similar to the hookers I see plying their trade during my early morning walks, the weak joke implying that non-hookers might be distracting hookers' market, delaying their commerce. I still blame "Carrie Bradshaw" for much of this.
