photokina 2012 – Leica Q&A Session

Leica Blog

Andreas, I wanted to add one last question but your comment system keeps dumping an error asking me to type in my name and email address although I've done so correctly ... anyway, the (hopefully) last question is:

Can Leica engineers consider to build an articulated LCD in future M or any CSC/EVIL models which integrates a back ISO/exposure compensation dial such as the ones on film M models?

Personally, I think the retro styling would add a lot of appeal as well as operability to the system when one seldom uses the LCD for chimping or anything.

Thanks. :)

Will come later, I have everything on tape, umm, SD card.

Give me some time for weekend, transcription and translation.

… incidentally also answering a question raised only recently in this forum, namely what became of Maike Harberts.

As far as I understood* she became product manager of the X system

*(may be also of the compacts? - the meeting took part at the press room at the Leica both, which has a open cieling and is very near to the event stage. Sometimes, when loud music at the stage was played, the Q&A was very hard to understand

So I don´t post anything from the Q&A , because I haven´t it recorded on SD :D )

The only I´ll post : even with the problems of understanding it was an interessting meeting thanks to all who organized it and participated !

Some interesting comments, and confirmation of a few points to banish internet myths about the M size and EVF!

It's a pity they didn't contribute further to the M8 LCD thread to explain the issues they came across with other types of LCD - although I expect some users would be perfectly happy with a flickering LCD as opposed to none at all!

Seems clear from what they haven't admitted to that they are working on product to sit between the X and M range, there will be black/chrome ME's next year, and a new telephoto lens for the M :D

absolutely! i think Leica should offer the flickering screen solution-----it's better than having an entirely non-functional screen.

Not sure, from which remarks you take your assumption about something between the X and M range. They critizised publications from the past which seemed to imply such a product and explained that expecting a price around 3000,-€ would not be realisitic. From what I heard - and read in Andreas' transcription - they sounded negative about to these rumors - always adding they woud not reveal plans for the future.

The same is true for different colours for the ME. The answer was definitely "No" - adding: "you should never say never."

The answer about telephoto lenses for the M was different: "We'll think about this". If you look at this answer in context with the data of present lens production still being far behind the demand, I do not think they would rush to bring out more lenses in new ranges.
