Communication from Leica, finally.

The M8 has become a joke. Now this e-mail forcing people to use only Leica filters on the 5000 dollar camera, if you want correct color across the entire image. Lets not forget that Leica did not even warn people about the IR before the cameras' release. Will this company have any credibility left before it is all over. It seems like one scam after another. I am truly saddened that people are willing put up with such a farce.

Oh, I forget these filters are only useful when the camera is working, and not doing some wierd reset "hiccup".

Regards,

Steve

You can afford a 5000$ camera, a 3000$ lens and no 100$ filter? Whose credilbilty? The Nikon D70 has exactly the same sensitivity. I don't recall any such posts about that....

First person in the USA who receives their two filters from Leica, please send up a flare as a sign of hope for the rest of us.

Frimware 1.092? I'll pass. Next month, after some of you brave souls successfully grapple with 1.10, I'll give it some thought. The beasty is working well now - why should I de-rail it with a minor firmware update?

I too consider this as unacceptable but nobody's forced to buy the M8 and i haven't heard of refund refusals so far.

Leicaphiles like me may feel disappointed for sure but the culprit is not only Leica to be honest. It's also Zeiss, Cosina and others who don't want to compete on the DRF market.

Let's just hope that Leica solve their problems some way or another before our R-D1's fall apart...

@ Stephen P... I don't think the Leica M8 is a joke at all. It's just having some similar problems to the 1ds2 when it first arrived :)

Also Leica is perfectly right to specify what filter to use. Good heavens--if they didn't, people would be all over them saying they hadn't dealt seriously with the problem. Once their filters are out, look at the specifications, and if you can find one cheaper, use it!

But only Leica knows the real extent of the IR problem, and I'm glad they're trying to fix it.

@ Scott--the cyan vignette can be fixed with a LAB curves tweak. I really don't need exact numbers here when most lenses vignette to some degree anyway. But if enough of us get together, we can get all the lens data included in Panotools anyway (and maybe get a port to the Mac?).

If I were a betting man I'd bet C1 V4 has all the lens correction tools built-in, too.
