I just came across the new M9P Meisterstuck from Meister camera.

https://www.meister-camera.com/hamburg/index.php?id=50&tx_commerce_pi1[showUid]=10069&tx_commerce_pi1[catUid]=12&cHash=3aa7357db976b61c03ec7b9116ddbf5e

They show the camera with 28 cron ASPH and with a to me new lenshood.

Does anyone know if this hood has been there before? And is it possible to buy one?

The only way to find out: ask Meister camera. But don’t be disappointed if the answer is - yes, it is specific for the special camera, and no, we do not sell it separately....

You can buy this hood separately - not only for this special edition - since almost two yeas now:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/181344-leica-12589-vs-12466-replacement-hood.html#post1699740

It fits on the 2/28 Summicron and the 2.8/28 Elmarit asph as well as the former 1.4/35 Summilux asph - not the recent one with floating elements!

Its only disadvantage is that it has a some, lets say ... real, vintage, red dot, Leica price...

Hello Everybody,

I would think that: Given the angle of coverage of a 28mm lens or wider on a full frame M: A properly fitted rectangular lens hood would better reduce flare while @ the same time reducing bulk thereby making the lens/camera combination easier to handle. More Leica like.

I tend to think a rectangular as opposed to round lens hood of the dimensions necessary to adequately reduce flare in such large aperture'd lenses of such wide angles of coverage would also reduce the possibility of inadvertant impact/damage to both the lens mount & the optics. There would be less of a lens shade to come in inadvertant contact w/ something that might cause an impact/damage.

Don't forget the primary purpose of a rigid lens hood is impact/damage protection. Better to replace a shade than a lens element or part of a focusing mount. Flare suppression is secondary.

As in the World in general: Sometimes w/ Leitz/Leica less is more.

Best Regards,

Michael

No, Uli, that's the expensive 12466 scalloped lens hood. The Meister one doesn't have the scalloping. Steve, your link was to a blank page on Meister Hamburg's site.

The hood in the image seems to have a straight surface - hopefully it's cheaper. The 12466 cost a stratospheric sum. It is nice though :o

I'm pretty sure it won't fit the 28 Elmarit ASPH (which uses the same hood as the 35 Summicron ASPH) – perhaps you meant the previous non-ASPH 28 Elmarit?

Better link: MEISTER CAMERA Hamburg: LEICA M9-P Meisterstück

Interesting that the camera comes with the 28 Summicron. On balance this is probably the best lens that I own but it seems an odd focal length choice to be 'bundled' with a full frame camera. Maybe Leica are soon to introduce a version 2 of this lens with a new mechanical design (one where the front doesn't fall off quite so easily) and they have a job lot of current version lenses to get rid of before Photokina?

I really like my 28 summicron too but had never heard about the front falling off

Mine seems to be holding it together....I only wish I could say the same :)

The front 'ring' is held on with quite small grub screws. These are fine if, like me, you mount and unmount the lens holding the lens by the main barrel. However, some people apparently like to use the hood to twist the lens on and off and this puts all the stress on those grub screws which inevitably fail at some point. It seems to be quite a common problem in the various Leica forums.

That is what I was hoping for :)

The 12466 looks great but I just can't justify the price to myself. I have had it in the shoppingbasket for like 4 times now and never bought it :)

I will give them a call/ mail.

[edit] Well, got an quick answer back, its not possible to buy the hood separately. Well It can, but for 12000 euro... :)

So looks like the 12466 still is the only option from leica for a round metal hood[/edit]

Hi,

the Meisterstück lens hood is almost the same shape as the non genuine ones you can order from asia through ebay. Just look for Leica metall Lens Shade 46mm.

IMHO the Meisterstück Leica is the nicest special edition for years. I just got one in my hands at the Leica Store Munich the day before yesterday. The price of it is also modest, if you compare it to other

special editions latley.

Best Regards

Moritz

The gray with black works pretty well indeed.

I thought it was a SE because of the celebration of meister camera. Strange other stores have them in stock to.

Hi Robert,

the Leica Store in Munich is owned by Meister Camera. Actually they got 5 sets of the Meisterstück Leica.

If I remember correctly two numbers they have, is 3 and 44.

Okey, never knew they had more stores.

Just got an extra email from mr Meister. The Meisterstuck 28mm has a different thread compared to the regular 28 cron to fit the hood. So even when the hood was available it would not fit.

Hi Robert,

this is correct. There is an outer thread for the lens shade and still another inner thread for a 46mm Filter. So the the Asian Leica lens shade will go with the inner 46mm thread. You wont see the difference.

Best Regards

Moritz
