  1. 1. Do you experience better performance of the forum?

    • Yes, forum is much faster for me!
    • Yes, but only small improvement
    • Sorry, no difference
    • No, quite the contrary - forum slowed down

Hi everyone,

two day ago I've implemented a new service (a so called CDN) which should improve the speed of the Leica Forum - especially in the US, but also in Europe.

Most of the bits and bytes of the forum will now come from a server in your country - and not from Duesseldorf where our forum server is located.

My question:

Does the forum pages show up faster for you since Tuesday, July 3rd?

Please vote in the poll!

Thanks

Andreas

Over here, certainly. Much faster is maybe overstating, but it is more than a small improvement :)

If I might suggest another improvement: If you can get IP recognition software, have the forum display in English to non-members outside Germany. I can imagine somebody not speaking German clicking away without discovering the flag.

I hope, this isn't a trick question but now that you mention it, it does seem faster ... or is it my imagination. ... :o

EDIT - It was never slow for me, so I can't really tell, to be honest.

It appears to be a big improvement in speed here. One flash and the new screen is up.

I upgraded to 60Mbit/s Broadband last week, so there may be a doubler affecting this. :D

This is also the case for me in Montreal. Speed was never an issue. It all seems to work just fine.

It depends on the reader's ISP and the backbone infrastructure it relies on ... some may not be able to benefit from the content delivery network. My download speed from a server located in Germany is normally around 30 mbps so the difference could be very marginal.

It is very nice though ... I'm sure many other folks may rejoice. :-)

It's never really been an issue for me in the West Midlands of the UK.

Speedtest.net is telling me I'm getting 37 Mbps to a server in Cologne which is the closest one to Dusseldorf they list.

Thanks for the effort though, I'm sure it will make a lot of difference to some users.

At first I thought not a lot of difference in New Zealand, but now it does seem faster. The forum has been painfully slow at times, each page taking 30 seconds or more to open. It is currently taking only about five seconds, but speed can vary. We only have one international cable coming into the country and download speeds are never very fast.

Yep it seems faster where I am but I don't know why but for some reason when I enter the site I find I've been logged out so have to log myself in again.:(

Regards

Mike
