duckrider Posted May 22, 2012 Share #41 Posted May 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry from me too! But a good reason to think about a M9Hermes - missing the hot shoe this can't happen! These modern camera desingers, they know, what they do! MarkP Posted May 22, 2012 Share #42 Posted May 22, 2012 Looking through this thread everyone seems more concerned about the camera than the backside. I notice no concern or mention of irreparable damage to the offending rear end:rolleyes:

xalo Posted May 22, 2012 Share #44 Posted May 22, 2012 A sorry sight, your camera. Best for getting it fixed swiftly. Out of curiosity - was the M9 still working after the accident? If yes, you could suggest it as a marketing argument to Solms... could have been a test... (Oly seriously advertised the late E-3 as being able to function with all kinds of parts ripped away, screen, flash etc...) Cheers, Alexander
jaapv Posted May 22, 2012 Author Share #45 Posted May 22, 2012 Yes- it did work Anyway, it is on its way to Solms as I write. I called in to let them know it was coming. Pretty amazing by the way. I put down the phone after arranging the pickup with Fedex, and Fedex rang the bell within one minute...

No harm done - if only the camera had been as well-padded I notice no concern or mention of irreparable damage to the offending rear end No harm done - if only the camera had been as well-padded :D
marknorton Posted May 22, 2012 Share #47 Posted May 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not your first insurance claim, I think! My excess is £1000 and I dont think the repair will cost that much, depends I suppose on whether the top has been damaged. What happened to the flash, I'm surprised the camera broke before the plastic hot shoe...
ALD Posted May 22, 2012 Share #48 Posted May 22, 2012 Sorry to see that happen Jaap. It happens to us all sometimes.
jaapv Posted May 22, 2012 Author Share #49 Posted May 22, 2012 Indeed not my first, but thelast one is four years back. My lower excess is 100 Euro I think, so Fedex alone is considerably more. I just think they need to replace the shoe and its flex. The plastic of the flash is obviously more resilient than four little screws...

M9reno Posted May 22, 2012 Share #51 Posted May 22, 2012 Jaap, one week you are the envoy for the news that the MM is the end of film, and the next you unconsciously attempt to manufacture your own M9 Hermes and make the end of hotshoes! That trip to Berlin has done strange things to your brain! Seriously, just kidding. I hope it's all fixed very soon.
pico Posted May 22, 2012 Share #52 Posted May 22, 2012 Whoa! It is a good thing that did not happen in a nudist camp. .
Double Negative Posted May 22, 2012 Share #53 Posted May 22, 2012 Didn't you learn to check your mirrors before backing up? That sucks though. At least insurance will cover it and it sounds like it's well on its way to Solms. They'll make it right, no doubt.
fotografr Posted May 22, 2012 Share #54 Posted May 22, 2012 All these commiserations about the camera. Isn't anybody sorry about your ass? Stitches?
Ronazle Posted May 22, 2012 Share #55 Posted May 22, 2012 Commendable!! Most of us would not want to admit to the accident, much less share it with the world. regards, ron

Messsucherkamera Posted May 22, 2012 Share #57 Posted May 22, 2012 Blimey! Another reason not to use Leica! Hope you get it sorted soon. Regards, Mark Don't stop there - you have to give up photography altogether. It's the only way to be sure such misfortunes will not befall you. Just kidding. That trip to Berlin has done strange things to your brain! Seriously, just kidding. I hope it's all fixed very soon. I was on the point to post a comment someway related : isn't there some OBSCURE SIGNIFICANCE in the fact that you (incosciously....) damage your M9 just FEW DAYS after having handled the brand new MM ??? And having just written (I remember the post) that for B&W you still have a slightly better confidence in the old M8 than in M9 ? Hadn't you a very respectable track record as a color photographer, one could think that you were thinking too much to dedicate yourself to BW... "destroying" in your mind the color tool par excellence - ending with mind that commands your gestures till the unavoidable crash... (jokes apart... sorry for the accident - good occasion for a CLA...)
