_IF_ Leica were to release a b&w only digital M, at, let's say no more than a £1,000 GBP premium over an M9P, with the spec the same otherwise, would you be a potential buyer?

Unofficial poll, obviously, just for fun.

This poll is bound to be biased. It there are far more M geeks and monochrome fans here than in the general population.;)

But the forum population should give a good indication of the % of Leica M enthusiasts who are keen or not keen to buy a B&W digital M camera. The 'general population' ie outside the forum would be biased - because most of the people in it would probably be unaware of exactly what a Leica M camera actually is and what it does - especially when compared to eg a popular digital compact or digital cell phone camera.

After all, this is the Leica User Forum; if there are no fan boys here then where are they? However, if this poll shows that a vast majority of members here have no desire to purchase a B&W only digital camera you have to really question the marketing decisions being made in Solms.

As for price it scares me to see people here talking about only a £1000 delta between an M9-P and this new body (I call it an MP-B). In my mind it needs to be several thousand pounds less expensive to have any hope for success.

In a previous life I worked at a sports optics company, and the running joke was that during an engineering planning meeting someone would stand up and shout, "EUREKA!!! WE'LL SELL DOZENS!!!"

They are only rumoured marketing decisions ... nobody knows for sure if a suitable B&W sensor has been under development.

Phase One already has one, such a sensor exists.

Yes, but I expect the dynamic range and resolution to be better in such a sensor. Maybe even higher Iso performance.

That was just me putting something in the Poll. The whole thing is just a rumour anyway

That would be a bold move, a b&w only sensor, no LCD display... I just wonder if it wouldn't be a bit suicidal.

I wouldn't buy it anyway; my M3 already has a b&w sensor and no LCD display.
