DennisPT Posted January 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) To celebrate I can finally avoid an impulsive camera purchase, I bought a used M8.2 after a long thought. Pretty low mileage and looks good. The only thing that makes me wonder is when I put my ears close to the screen (I know the screen is supposed for our eyes), I'll hear a high pitch noise which lasts for 2-3 seconds every time I press any button, including the shutter release. I would like to ask our knowledgable members whether it's normal or not. I am using it and loving it. Hope somebody can give me a peace of mind. Thank you. Advertisement Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hi DennisPT, Take a look here My M8.2 sounds.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted January 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2012 Maybe I need to get my hearing checked, but I don't hear anything on either of my 2 M8.2s after pressing buttons like 'menu' or 'set' or half-depressing the shutter release. The only noise that bothers me is the darn shutter re-cock motor. (Discreet mode only delays the issue.) I'd love a manual re-cock mechanism, but not likely to ever happen. Clook Posted January 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2012 Hi, I've got both an m8 and m8.2 both between 3-4 years old. They both made this noise from new when I press the shutter release to the 'exposure' level. I can't hear it when any other buttons are pressed but in any case my tinnitus may be blocking it out! Nothing to worry about.
lct Posted January 27, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2012 Never heard of this so far but got the same (very) little noise after checking. Must be normal i guess. Thanks for having taught me something new.

jaapv Posted January 28, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2012 All digital cameras make this sound. Depending on the isolating properties of the camerabody this can be audible. As it is at the limit of the acuity of human hearing not everybody can pick it up. All dogs can, though
okram Posted January 28, 2012 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine M8u does it for the last 5 years. It seems ok. Go and take some pictures.
DennisPT Posted January 28, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks everybody for their responses. Now I can be worry free, a mindset that I never had when I got my first M8 panda 3 years ago. Have a good weekend.

Yes I heard that too, but only when pushing the button halfway to fix the metering, until release. My M9 is silent there

Guest Ming Rider Posted January 30, 2012 Share #11 Posted January 30, 2012 Yep. Both M8's I've had have done this. Just think of it as a defibrillator charging up.
mostebo Posted January 30, 2012 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2012 My M8 does this too, only when half pressing the shutter though. Step outside and you'll never notice it Thanks for bringing this up, I also have thought about the sound, and wondered if everything was ok!
jevidon Posted January 31, 2012 Share #13 Posted January 31, 2012 "...I'll hear a high pitch noise which lasts for...." Maybe it's the squeal of pleasure from a black forest elf .
