Hey there everyone,

This is my first post to the forum so apologies for sounding like a newbie! haha

I've been looking for a Leica iii and i have found a iiic for sale serial: 453029

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on working out whether it is fake or real.

Thanks! (links below)

It's a IIf black dial with an inexpertly repaired accessory shoe, so a better deal than a IIIc. To be sure, unscrew the lens and look at the focus following cam: if it is a wheel, then you have a Leica a wedgemeans Russian fake, I have never seen a fake IIf. (just that it would take a lot of engraving the ruskis like to do the fake nazi stuff with ersatz reichsadlers and stuff)

No doubt that this is a real IIf - manufactured in 1951. The accessory shoe is correct for the IIf, as the IIf had a simpler design than the IIIc or IIIf. The IIf was cheaper version and as such some features were 'trimmed'. Speeds only down to 1/30s and the accessory shoe - instead of the sprung type of the IIIf, it was a simpler design with just friction fit.

What is interesting though, it appeears that the camera comes with a 'Red Scale Elmar' - that would be a nice find. What leads me to that conclusion is the distance scale, which is typical for the 'Red Scale'.

Best,

Jan
