esophoria Posted December 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Luma Labs has a new product. I already own a Luna lab strap for my D7000. Does this new one make sense for our M9's? Luma Labs — Cinch There is a video on the link above. Advice and comments sought! I have no financial interest at all in Luma. Happy Holiday! -Michael

jaapv Posted December 25, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2011 Rather not- the baseplate is removable and not designed for traction forces.
MarkP Posted December 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 25, 2011 I don't think I'd want one of these but isn't the baseplate is designed to fit to a tripod with the expected associated stresses, especially with heavier lenses?
andybarton Posted December 25, 2011 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2011 There's an awful lot of tugging going on in that video. To a certain extent, a lot of these "innovative" strap offers are solutions to a non-existent problem.
250swb Posted December 25, 2011 Share #6 Posted December 25, 2011 I think the baseplate is plenty strong enough for tripod use, but would avoid attaching a strap to it. The potential for accidents is great, and unlike a DSLR you drop the whole camera if a snag causes the baseplate to detach. And you can't even change batteries without taking the camera from around your neck. I vote for the standard strap, it works. Steve
andybarton Posted December 25, 2011 Share #7 Posted December 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you have an SLR it might make more sense, but with the unique design of an M, there are clear pitfalls that other brands don't have. jaapv Posted December 25, 2011 Share #8 Posted December 25, 2011 I don't think I'd want one of these but isn't the baseplate is designed to fit to a tripod with the expected associated stresses, especially with heavier lenses? Yes, but the direction of the forces by resting the baseplate on a tripod is completely different from pulling it by attaching a strap. For the same reason I'll happily carry an SLR with tripod over my shoulder rifle-style, but would avoid doing that on an M camera, especially if it wears a heavy lens. esophoria Posted December 25, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted December 25, 2011 I currently use a Leica made strap in red....looks sharp with my black M9. The overall weight is just tolerable....when using my Summarit 90 it borders on getting heavy.... A sling would be ideal for me. Any recommendations? 3rdtrick Posted December 25, 2011 Share #11 Posted December 25, 2011 I agree with the others and don't think I want it for my M9 but thank you for posting as I may get one for my Nikon DSLR. Pete

I use a Mr Zhou wrist strap that includes a separate area to hold if I want to rest my fingers from gripping my M9-P and 90AA. For sling-style straps The Strap with The Hook works well. Although I have no experience of it, some forum members also use and recommend The Sling, which is another novel method of holding your M9. For disclosure I have no connection to any of the products or companies I've linked to. Pete.
