fotoism Posted November 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been reading up many threads on this forum about sensor cleaning and Pec*Pad was mentioned quite a few time by members. However, the product warns of NOT using it for cleaning CCD sensors, which is what M8/M9 use. I would love to hear what your experience is with this product, either good or bad. Advertisement Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi fotoism, Take a look here Pec*Pad. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted November 21, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2011 Phil, I haven't any direct experience with it, but I raised the same question of Shootist on the forum a couple years back. His response was that despite the warnings, it's the same material as in the lens swabs from the same supplier. That's double hearsay, I know, but maybe he'll pop up among responders to your post. fotoism Posted November 21, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted November 21, 2011 Howard: Thanks for the reply. I have a slight suspicion that the warning is just to direct business to the sensor swabs they also market, at a higher price. That's why I want to hear from those who had actually used it. J_Thompson Posted November 21, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2011 I had a photography instructor, who's also a pro, who used Pec Pads to clean his negatives. If they are safe enough for acetate and emulsion they should be safe for glass. FWIW, I use them on my own sensors - with a paddle, of course with nary a problem. You do get the occasional stray fiber however, but just blow it off.
topoxforddoc Posted November 22, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 22, 2011 I use PecPads and Eclipse to clean the sensors on my two DMRs. Also use PecPads to clean my negatives before enlarging or to wipe down the wet negatives with distilled water/isopropanol mix when hanging up to dry (helps to prevent hard water drying marks)
jaapv Posted December 2, 2011 Share #6 Posted December 2, 2011 The reason for the warning is that PecPads are not stored dust-free and may tyheoretically pick up scratchy stuff. Sensor Swabs are assembled and packed in a dust-free environment.
