Ivar B Posted October 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I note an that an eBayer offering Leica M flanges with recesses for 6-bit coding in place (item 140597071401) for extremely low prices - US$ 39.95 for a set of 3 (!). Has anyone actually tested these? I take it that the precision will not be as good as Leicas own of course, but there are several users around who adapt Leica R lenses for Canon for example using cheap adapters and being happy with it. Advertisement Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here 6-Bit flanges eBay. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted October 9, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 9, 2011 Well, given that people like Will van Manen do lens coding and focus check for prices well below 100 Euro and with a quick turnaround, getting el-cheapo adapters of untested quality seems to me to be self-defeating. Ivar B Posted October 9, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted October 9, 2011 Thanks for the tip. I checked out his web and this seems to be a good source for repairs also.
lct Posted October 9, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 9, 2011 Thank you Ivar. Just ordered 2 sets of those adapters. I will keep you informed.
ayewing Posted October 9, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 9, 2011 Looks interesting but I have just had a look at my two uncoded lenses. My sumicron 35mm (Type III) has no screw holes in the flange and my Voigtlander 25mm has four screwholes not six like my other M lenses and the flanges shown on the eBay illustration. It would be wise to check before ordering.

Leica may have changed the mounting system of the flanges over time and possibly the flanges may be built for the present days system. In the Leica world this is such a minute investment and if it does not fit on all lenses I can live with that. If there are no screw holes in your lens` flange, how is it affixed to the lens? 250swb Posted October 9, 2011 Share #7 Posted October 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) For the bargain price I have also ordered a set. Lets face it, if the correct co-ordinates are entered into a CNC lathe the correct tolerances will come out in the end product, whether it is made in Solms or a small backstreet factory in China. I have successfully coded all my previously uncoded lenses with a Dremel and they work perfectly. If a simpler option is now available I am willing to test it. Steve Do you have a photo of one of your Dremel codings? Which Dremel tool did you use? Might try that on one of my Zeiss where a screw does not inhibit this. lct Posted October 10, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 10, 2011 You stand the risk to do ugly things like this if your skills are as poor as mine. More seriously, why risking to damage your precious bayonets if those inexpensive adapters can do the job? I will give them a try as soon as i receive them and report my findings here. http://tinyurl.com/6h9w6qn

In the Leica world this is such a minute investment and if it does not fit on all lenses I can live with that. If there are no screw holes in your lens` flange, how is it affixed to the lens? I was not surprised that the flanges would not fit Voigtlander lenses. As regards the Sumicron, the flange appears to be attached by three screws on the side of the lens mount. One of the screw heads can be seen to the right of centre just below the flange in the image below. The purpose of my posting was to warn others to check the flange on their lenses before ordering. TomB_tx Posted October 10, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 10, 2011 My v2 35 Summicron is similar - no screws on the flange surface. It has 4 screws on the sides that must hold on the flange. It also doesn't look like the eBay flanges would work on my V3 50 Summicron or 90 "fat" TeleElmarit. Too bad...
Ivar B Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted October 10, 2011 Thanks for the info in the last two posts. This is probably also the reason why these lenses cannot be coded by Leica.
Ivar B Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted October 10, 2011 I wouldn't assume that. You may very well be right. Of course I should not assume that just because they are made in China.
Ivar B Posted October 11, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted October 11, 2011 it seems that there are more offerings also (320542495661) and that seller says that Leica uses to systems for rear mounts and one should specify which lens type when ordering. Interesting.
