Which Canon body for R lenses?

I have resolved to use a Leica to Canon body adapter and I have been very please with the Canon Mark iv because of the increase fps for action photography. The picture quality is OK but not as good as the DMR. Are there advantages with the other Canon bodies ie Canon 5D or Mark lll that are significant enough that I should purchase another Canon body? I would like to improve the image quality even though the fps will be a bit compormised.

Are there other good options coming that I should wait before purchasing? Another new full frame Canon that might be coming out soon? Will any of the upcoming Leica possiblilities be useable with my R lenses for action photography? Thanks for everyones thoughts and suggestions.:)

The whole of canon's professional DSLR line is due for refreshment - probably announced in

4Q11 for delivery by April 2012. New lines will have larger pixel count, faster processors,

and probably video enhancements but no one mentions improved image quality. The mark

may be as good as it gets currently. I wouldn't buy anything before you at least know what

the "improvements" are since you already have the DMR and a pro-line Canon that work.

Hi,

My 'vintage' 5D very often astonishes me with Leica glass. This not-so-packed FF-sensor seems to have a weak AA filter and comes up with very nice image quality, in terms of sharpness, colour (even jpg) and rendering of shades and volumes.

Advantage is, you can have it at a reasonable and fairly stable price. And given that much of the Canon line-up seems awaiting renewal, you wouldn't loose much money in this trial.

A caveat is the exposure inconsistency. It varies with lens and f-stop and needs some getting used to (perhaps same with 1D mkIV?) Strangely, on an 450D this was much less noticeable.

Cheers,

Alexander

Yes, it overexposes as you stop down. To compensate for that I shot RAW with exposure compensation of -2/3 of a stop. That stopped highlights from blowing.

Just for the sake of completeness, Nikons don't suffer from this affliction.

I must agree. I don't have any aspirations for using the Canon for video, or I would have given it more thought. Since May I've shot thousands of frames with my Nikon D3 and I must say, the results are very strong, particularly in low light. With Leica glass there is some added plus, but not in every focal length. I think the D3 & the upgraded series are amazing cameras.

None of Canons or Nikons come even close to my DMR, in daylight.

I agree with your comparison with the DMR! Maybe Imacon would renegotiate with Leica and work together and make us happy together again.;)

LOL! Seriously?

We compared the DMR to my boss husband's 5D MK III and it beats the pants off the DMR.... Geez i would have thought the MK 1Ds IV would have still beaten (and then some) the DMR...

My old D300 wasn't doing too bad vs it ether. I haven't tried the D7000.

Hmm - your boss's husband has access to Canon prototypes? The current model is still the Mk. II. ;)

Personally, I've tried out the DMR, the Canon 5D 1 and 2, and the Nikon D700, and would not trade my 5D2 (with APO 180 f/3.4 and 400 f/6.8) for any of the others. Not for low light sports action, not for detailed landscapes, not for anything. Probably not even a 5D Mk 3. ;)

Below: 1% of a 5D2 image, and the full frame. Aforesaid APO 180 (wide open, no less).

Got detail?
